The "Shinkot casket," a container made for Buddhist relics dating to the second century BCE. The casket is of special importance because its inscription mentions Maharaja Minadra -- almost certainly a reference to King Menander, a Greek ruler who controlled parts of modern Afghanistan and Pakistan in the wake of Alexander the Great's conquests.

"Ayusi Sweeping Bandits with a Lance," painted by the Jesuit missionary Giuseppe Castiglione in 1755. Castiglione served in the court of three Chinses emperors, painting scenes that combined European and Chinese styles. Ayusi was a Dzungar warrior; the Dzungars ruled a Mongolian kingdom north of Qing China at the time.

A grave relief for Tatianos, a child, and Tation, his mother. From Roman Turkey, ca. 150 CE. It appears that the relief was made for the death of Tatianos; another inscription was added by Tatianos' brother when Tation died. The inscription reads (translation from the Getty website):
“Demetrios and Tation for their sweetest child Tatianos in memory. May whoever lays a hand heavy with [envy] on this grave be struck by a similarly premature blow of fate.” Just above, near the feet of the two figures: “Theaitetos for his mother Tation.”

The constellation of Draco, the dragon, from the Book of Fixed Stars, 1010 CE. The Book of Fixed Stars was a medieval Arabic-language reworking of Ptolemy's work on the positions of the stars. It was quite influential and was copied many times over the ensuing centuries in both the Middle East and Europe.

A Mayan bird-shaped whistle, 7th-9th century CE. The whistle can be played in two ways; a person can blow through the tail or the back of the head. The hole in the bird's chest allows the player to play a different note.
