He gave her fingers a slight squeeze. “Come on. Don’t lie. I can tell by your hand shaking a little that something is troubling you.” he replied to her. He let go briefly and turned around to face her before taking her hand in his own. “Adam is already dead, right? You and Blake took care of him. So when are you going to talk to me about, ya know, stuff?” he asked her. He lightly pressed his forehead to hers.

Being called out like that made her want to scramble away from him. Unfortunately, he had a decent hold on her and his gaze pinned her in place. She attempted to take a steadying breath, clutching the hand that held hers even tighter. "It's not...." She bit her lip, exhaled in frustration, and turned her head to look away before starting over, "It's not about him anymore."

He sighed happily and closed his eyes. “Thank you, Yang. I appreciate it.” he said as he shifted a bit and got more comfortable in her lap before signing again in relaxation. “It’s only fair since I promised you back at Haven that I will never leave you again. Fair trade enough.” he joked a little.

Yang found herself leaning even closer as Ray closed his eyes and adjusted his position upon her lap. His statement, however, pushed her back, eliciting an exaggerated eye roll and a dry chuckle. She sunk a hand into the hair at her scalp and slid it through golden waves, "You're ridiculous."

Despite the jovial nature of their conversation, the words pricked a memory, causing her mind to instantly transport her to that exact moment. The rage, the betrayal, the deepest sense of disappointment she had ever felt to date. She wanted to be wrong about her mother so badly...

She sighed and shook her head, shoving the memories back down so they wouldn't taint the moment.
