Benson Music Video: Explained
As the video begins, we see Eklavya doing his monotonous night shift working as a customer support rep and getting evidently frustrated. Meanwhile, a hungry Sid wakes up and heads to the kitchen in search of some food. Finding no food in the empty refrigerator, his frustration boils, unlike the non-existent milk in the kitchen. This frustration shared by the two homies caters to their eventual urge to break out of this monotonous cycle.
The subsequent shots establish their history where they were sad and broke. No confidence in themselves nor their lives.
As the song proceeds further to the verse, we see them approaching a mysterious man sitting near a tent. A Caucasian Morpheus from the Matrix. Without any doubt, he offers them two pills. A blue and a red one. Paying heed to their childhood lessons, the two boys refuse the offer at first.
However, in the next shots, we eventually see them taking the pills and we see their life change, like never before. They are much happier and are living their best life. But nothing that is ‘best’ comes without some repercussions.
The pills are a sweet metaphor for one’s decisions in life and the pill they take embodies confidence.
For them to live their best lives, they chose to be confident in their craft and their identities. This helped them to leave the life of misery and suffering in the past, where it belongs. Yet, with new changes comes new challenges. Through the track, they have successfully shown that despite having the confidence and the validation coming from all the aspects of life, there are times when you start ‘over-relying’ on that external validation. As expected, this can easily screw up your happiness and your reality.
In the end, the pills are lying near a trash can, creating a sort of dichotomy for the viewers to interpret. Did they take the pills of confidence or were they already confident enough? Were the pills just a placebo?
