Before They Pass Away is a project and book by photographer Jimmy Nelson that aims to document tribes and cultures before they disappear from existence.Ā
About the book:
This historic volume showcases tribal cultures around the world. With globalization, these societies are to be prized for their distinctive lifestyles, art and traditions. They live in close harmony with nature, now a rarity in our modern era. Jimmy Nelson not only presents us with stunning images of customs and artifacts, but also offers insightful portraits of people who are the guardians of a culture that theyāand weāhope will be passed on to future generations in all its glory. Nelsonās large-plate field camera captures every intricate detail and fine nuance for posterity. Whatās more, this splendid pageantry is set against a vivid backdrop of some of the worldās most pristine landscapes.

This woman went on a Twitter rant about how Muslims are the only religious group who wage war in the name of religion and only give America oil and terror. Excuse me?! Iām disgusted. Itās honestly depressing how people of color treat one another when weāre all just in a different rung of the bottom of the barrel. Youāre an illiterate immigrant to him and all his constituents baby girl. Your brothers are rapists and your father no speaky English as far as heās concerned. Miss Puerto Rico or not. After these 15 minutes of fame for being publicly ignorant you will go right back to being just another Latino vote that is cast aside when the conversation comes to immigration, education, healthcare and anything else that matters. Out here playing yourself. #DestinyVelez #DonaldTrump #MissPuertoRico #StopIslamophobia
someone please present her with some history books. and some current affairs books.Ā
this bitch
#TRASH.
what has been bugging me the most is that all these countries which are majorly populated by black people get represented by the whitest of white women. Puerto Rico, Colombia,.. like seriously???
I FUCKING THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE!!!!
I literally was thinking that when i turned to it. I was watching the swimsuit part and i seen miss brazil, i literally said āOkay, but why does she look like a white woman..ā it was so many i lost count..
The Latin community is taught that dark skin is ugly and light skin is beautiful. We praise mothers whos children come out light skinned with colored eyes. Yet throw negative comments on anyone who has dark / brown skin and dark eyes. Donāt even get me started on the comments on hair. Anyone who Denies this colorism issue we have within us Latinx is a damn liar.
āThe study, āRacial Distancing in a Southern City: Latino Immigrantsā Views of Black Americans,ā is based on a 2003 survey of 500 Hispanic, Black and White residents in Durham, N.C., a city with one of the fastest-growing Hispanic population.
Latino immigrants often hold negative views of African-Americans, which they most likely brought with them from their more-segregated Latin American countries, a new Duke University study shows.
The study also found that sharing neighborhoods with Blacks reinforced Latinoās negatives views, and reinforces their feelings that they have āmore in common with Whitesā ā although Whites did not feel the same connection towards the Latinos.ā
Scholars Ask Why Latinos View Blacks Poorly
this is why i shudder when i hear that hispanics will become the majority in this country in a few years. the anti-blackness in the hispanic community and mind is nothing to sneeze at. for black people, itāll be more of the same.
One more thingā¦
Just as many white Americans deny both the prevalence of racism in the United States and the role they play in perpetuating and maintaining white supremacy, non-white, non-black groups, Native, Asian, Hispanic Americans, all deny their investment in anti-black sentiment even as they consistently seek to distance themselves from blackness so that they will not be seen as residing at the bottom of this societyās totem pole, in the category reserved for the most despised group. Such jockeying for white approval and reward obscures the way allegiance to the existing social structure undermines the social welfare of all people of color. White supremacist power is always weakened when people of color bond across differences of culture, ethnicity, and race.It is always strengthened when we act as though there is no continuity and overlap in the patterns of exploitation and oppression that affect all of our lives.
To ensure that political bonding to challenge and change white supremacy will not be cultivated among diverse groups of people of color, white ruling groups pit us against one another in a no-win game of āwho will get the prize for model minority today.ā They compare and contrast, affix labels like āmodel minority,ā define boundaries, and we fall into line. Those rewards coupled with internalized racist assumptions lead non-black people of color to deny the way racism victimizes them as they actively work to disassociate themselves from black people. This will to disassociate is a gesture of racism.
