It’s imperative to consume as much content from the above document as possible. The vital essentials being: the great houses, the map, and the social ranks, culture and gods. These are all things that can contribute to the world feeling immersive to you as a writer. If you find yourself struggling to understand some of the concepts you are more than welcome to reach out to one of the admins of the group. ( the crown, oathkeeper, savage daughter.)Â
Once you feel that you’ve got a good grasp on the in’s and out’s of the world, we suggest looking at “all characters/roles” which can be found on the group page as well. It is linked in the top navigation or on the admin page at the bottom. Now, none of us would ever in our right mind expect you to be perfect and have everything memorized. We frequently go back to check the doc whenever we need to reference something. It’s very common and normal to have blanks that need to be filled in, but don’t let that discourage you from jumping in!
APPLICATIONÂ
Our application process is pretty simple. We have an (Admin) page as well as a group (forum) page: the member-resources are all handled through the admin page while the group page is mainly for content and writing. The application/audition form is listed on the admin profile. It may take us up to 48 hours to return a message from the admin page as most of the admins also write in the group and on any given occasion may be handling multiple characters within the group. Once you’ve submitted an application or audition and it has been improved, the next step is to join our Discord server and begin working on your profile ( which will be used for writing ).
The applicant has a seven day (7) probation period from then on. The applicant must finish their profile complete with character edits and bio and make one (1) in-character post within those seven days. If an extension is needed we will grant the applicant a one-time, five-day extension period to allow them to complete their character set-up and do their in-character post. If the applicant is not communicating thoroughly or writing within the first seven days, then the admins will reach out and try to establish communication and conduct an investigation as to why or what may be preventing the applicant from completing the process.
Most of our pre-written roles have just enough to get you started. Each one of them come with pre-established connections in their house as well as some connected houses ( see political court map / guide below the houses. ) Along with their brief bio or character goal is a personality description. It’s important to note none of those are set-in-stone and you may request to alter the character to better fit your muse and vision for the canon. The only thing that we ask is that you work it out with an admin before making any critical changes to the canon. All of them have been designed to fit into the plot seamlessly. Â
When taking a canon character you’re subjecting yourself to following within the parameters of that house and those connections. You cannot take a canon character from one house and move them into another, nor can you change important character details about them without first requesting permission. All face-claims are also negotiable.Â
This is a viable option for any writers who don’t feel they connect well with the canon - wanted roles that are available. Because we operate under the “sandbox rpg” umbrella, it’s very easy to create a character that blends in and also stands out. The basics for creating a character are simple: who are they? Where are they from? Why is their story important? How do they help build the world or contribute to the world? What’s their occupation or skill set? What’s a character trait and what is a critical character flaw?Â
Our canon list will have all reserved face claims already situated as canons. Outside of this, there are no reserved face claims and you are free to pitch whichever you prefer for your created character. The most important thing to consider when creating a character is how they affect the world around them and how easy is it going to be to connect with the other taken canon characters. We also ask that you refrain from creating an all-knowing, all-powerful, non-flawed character or taking from tropes that are already listed in the canon section.
AESTHETICS
We implore all writers within our group to utilize aesthetics when posting or musing their character. Outside of the group there are no graphic/aesthetic guidelines. Inside the forum all graphics must correlate to the width-size of the respective template being used. If the template is condensed to a (350px) width then the graphic must also be (350px) width. The exception to this guideline is using profile-edge graphics. Those can be a 1x1 ratio ( 100x100 ) and so on. As long as the photo is constrained to a 1x1 ratio and flows well with the post then it is acceptable.
We also ask that the photos be period + setting appropriate. Meaning, refrain from using photos of the actor or modeling of whom your face claim is. Use period accurate photos: no designer handbags or watches. We follows these guidelines to ensure that there is consistency across the forum and with the content of the group.
ACTIVITY & WRITINGÂ
We currently have no strict activity standard. That being said, we do however, conduct monthly activity checks to maintain focus and consistency within our community. Threads that are contributing one-post per-month may be subject to investigation and the writer(s) responsible for the inconsistency may be contacted to determine the cause of the slow-moving thread and lack of consistent pace. We highly encourage every writer to attempt to maintain at least a one-post per-three-to-four day rate. If there are extenuating real-life circumstances that prevent the writer from conducting one in-character post within three-to-four days then we suggest that writer or applicant disclose as much in their audition/application or contact the admins for further guidance.
We also stick to a third-person limited point of view, past-tense preferred. If you intend to write in first person we ask that you remain consistent and write first-person as this character coherently and from then-on. Switching between points of view for readers and writing partner(s) may get confusing. Be sure to discuss the point of view and tense with your writing partner(s) and the admin before switching indefinitely.Â
So, this is pretty important to understand as well. We have two pages on the site which we use to operate our group: the admin page and the group forum. The group itself serves as our content hub, the Google doc we use to house all important information and the admin page we use to communicate with the writers on the site. Outside of this, the most important place to get a better understanding of the group would be our support discord, which is linked on the group forum page.Â
We do write in a group forum setting and ask that everything with the characters be written in that setting. Anything written outside of the forum is non-canon and cannot be referenced by the general group because the contents are unavailable. We encourage writers to banter and write on discord, however, this too is non-canon unless it takes place in the server discord in a writing channel or in the group forum. This is important.Â
Our group has three main plots at all time which encompass the entire world. Out of the three plots, one is a main plot while the other two are supporting plots. All three are occurring at the same time in conjunction with one another. Each plot serves to build a different part of the world and involves a rotating cast or various characters who may shift from one plot to the other at any given time. Because we’re a sandbox style RP, common role-plays may also take place between writers, such as: slice of life, crime, and horror – all as long as they maintain the world in correct form.Â
Writers who intend to introduce new concepts, animals, powers, and elements of fantasy of science fiction must submit these ideas to the admin team for approval before posting them. This is to help maintain the authenticity of the world we’re trying to build.
MATURE THEMESÂ
We are a mature themed group ( 18+ ) and for various reasons require every writer within the group to conduct themselves in a mature and adult fashion. No characters below the age of eighteen are permitted to be written, and are otherwise only considerable in an NPC format. Our group stories as well as personal threads contain various triggering themes such as and not limited to: sexual violence, sexual themes, gore, violence, adultery, betrayal, abuse, and so on. If for any reason these themes may trigger you please reach out to the admins or discuss with your writing partner ahead of planning a thread.
All mature content we expect to be written tastefully and with the narrative, setting and plot in mind. We do not condone smut-driven threads. The sexual experiences of the character must maintain a narrative point and move the story or divulge character insight. We also do not write graphic lewd content in the open forum. Everything that would otherwise be consider lewd or NSFW ( not safe for work ) must be FADE-TO-BLACK, or written in a private setting between the writers and referenced in the thread as needed.
INSPIRATION AND THEMEÂ
What inspired our group — BLITZ/EMPIRE? We consider ourselves a feudal-interstellar, space-opera. A lot of our story takes place on the planet known as Blitz, which belongs to a diverse interstellar society ranging between various planets and races. In a manner of speaking many have described our setting and lore as “Game of Thrones in space.” Because of this we often get labeled as a Dune-esk story. Although, you won’t find any Spice-driven plots or narrative points. Blitz Empire is very much the story of a world in the midst of being rebuilt after a cataclysmic attack by a ruthless multi-world union that no longer exists. Our story is highly dependent on a pseudo-political court intrigue. For this we draw inspiration from Bridgerton, Game of Thrones, Tudors, The White Queen and Dune itself.
Although our story is somewhat science fiction, there aren’t very many technological advancements outlined besides interstellar travel and, quite the contrary, our world and people are somewhat archaic. We also draw inspirations for this theme from various works of fiction including books, movies and television shows such as: Spartacus, Reign, Vikings, and Shadow & Bone. Our story is consistently developing and evolving and because of this, so is our world.
PLOTTINGÂ
We expect all members to post at least one in-character post in their first seven days of being a member of the group. That being said, we understand that many people finish their application, their profile and set their character up and go, “What now?” Not to worry — we’re here to help. It’s imperative to know the world and the characters and some of the lore before jumping in and plotting your first thread. You’ll need to know where your character fits in the best, under or with which house and in or around what kingdom.
Once you have those two things identified, reach out to your member-group base: the writers who are also writing within those houses or within that kingdom. Determine what stories need to be told. The easiest way to define “What needs to be told?” Is — what part of the world needs to have a light shined on it? Is it the horse stable up-keep? The markets? The ports? The various residents of the kingdom? Or perhaps, the soldiers within? Pick a part of the kingdom you wish to develop and build upon and write a plot involving those elements to help build that part of the kingdom / world.
Other types of plotting can consist of vital character insight or growth. Maybe your character’s quest is to meet a person on the other side of the world, so hop a carriage and stow away, ride along through the Eastern Plains and encounter another character and engage in a dangerous exchange with them or NPC’d bandits who set upon the carriage! It’s important that each plot follow an anatomy. A tried-and-true method of storytelling. Every plot within our forum, we encourage to be written with a three-act structure, the most simple of story formats.
ACT I
Who are you?
Where are you?
What do you want?
ACT II
Who’s with you?
What’s in your way?
What’s your plan to overcome that obstacle?
ACT III
Your plan didn’t work, how do you react?
What’s your new plan?
Why did that work?
(a.) What’s changed?
When plotting your threads keep some of these key components in mind to help tell a compelling and consistent story with your writing partner(s).
No cliques. We cannot stress this enough, we do not condone two writers being exclusive with their content to one another solely. We encourage all writers involved to write and connect with everyone in the group. If the focus of your writing leans too heavily on one writer over the others, you may be asked to join other topics or write with other writers in on-going plots to keep our group safe from forming favoritisms.Â
We do not have an activity standard — we believe you will write if you want to, so if your muse has taken a dive, we ask that you reach out and contact us to let us know so that we may move plots accordingly. Time-off or away is important for the writer’s mental health, but be considerate of your writing partners. Because you may not be available in the moment doesn’t mean that they aren’t as well. As an example: if you have Friday off and choose not to write until Sunday, but your writing partner works Sunday and has Friday off and is waiting on your post, the writing partner could lose muse and avoid the thread altogether due to the waiting periods between posts and being able to reply.Â
I know for me ( admin 1 ) when I’m waiting on someone to reply with my available time and it runs out and I’m not able to reply for another two days or a week, I can easily lose my muse because my free time was not spent replying, but rather, waiting on someone else to reply. We try to avoid this at all costs with simple communication. Let us or your partners know you will be busy or away and we can adjust accordingly.Â
Be coachable — granted, no one wants to feel like everything they do is wrong, but nobody likes a know-it-all either. Have an open mind when it comes to writing, format, and story-telling. Our admin group is a decorated lot when it comes to the industry of story-telling. We have backgrounds in film, literature and art. Some of us on a professional level, we would never attempt to correct your writing if it wasn’t to help you grow or become a better writer. We ask that if you’re being helped that you keep an open mind and come willing to learn and grow and be better. We offer limitless resources on writing, coding, and graphic design to help aid our writers in becoming the best version of their writing-self possible.Â
Equally, we love to learn and grow ourselves. If you see an area in which can be improved upon whether that is with writing, managing the group, format, or style – please let us know and we’ll keep an open mind and see how we can fix any error in our ways.Â
Please format your posts! When posting in the group formatting helps keep the consistency of the thread as each writer utilizes one of our resources: the writing templates. We ask that everyone format their writing in order to maintain a level of readability. Formatting can also be good for personalizing your writing; adding character or flare to it. If a writer needs help learning how to format their post, please contact one of the admins we would be more than happy to assist.Â
We accept multipara, para and novella but not one-liners. Because we pride ourselves on the level of effort that goes into our group we ask our writers to bring a level of effort into the group themselves. Please, try to maintain some respect and regard for your partners when writing. Give them enough to work with in your posts so that they may have a sufficient reply. Try to avoid writing the same details and describing the same scene as your partner. Carry on the story from their exit point and move the plot. Introduce new ideas and obstacles.Â
Plot your topics! We are not a wing-it sort of group. We ask that everyone plot their topics with one question to be answered: how does this plot help the story or the character? If you write a plot that details a conversation, make the dialogue good and worthy of the topic. Reveal something crucial about the characters involved, perhaps share a secret or tell them something that may motivate them to oppose another character or join them. If you’re writing something action heavy, find a way to tie the action into another character or another plot. If there’s a virus sweeping Odens Kingdom, talk about it, write about it. If there are raids occurring in the north, mention them, react to them, or write them happening to you!
It’s important to use every topic to move your character on their journey. If your topics only serve the purpose to connect to another writer, make it interesting. Find a way that they could meet that involves the setting, the plot, or some sort of call-to-action. It’s boring meeting in a coffee shop for brunch. Try to plot something exciting and moving, action-based or drama-based. Maybe, they’re riding horseback to find a deserter together and stumble upon something more sinister? Maybe they are deserters: cops and robbers. Maybe there’s a secret that one has and the other desperately needs to know, what lengths would you go to in order to learn this secret?Â
If you’re unsure of whether or not a plot will work or seems consistent with the theme of the group, ask an admin! Don’t be afraid to communicate your worry or concern over plotting. Everyone needs help sometimes. Even us.Â
Drama — will absolutely not be tolerated. Usually, what happens is that person A doesn’t like person B or refuses to write with them. Refusing to write with another writer in the group is a pretty tell-tale sign that this might not be the group for you. If you have a history with a writer in the group we encourage you to talk to them, talk about it, set boundaries and find a way to work together to tell the story with the rest of us. Spreading lies or slandering your writing partner’s on the site will not be tolerated. We’re all focused on writing and here for that and that alone. If anything attempts to hinder that, the person responsible for these actions is liable for termination from the group and the server.Â
WORLD BUILDING & NEED TO KNOW
THE SETTING
BLITZ/EMPIRE is set in the Imperial Year 989, which is the 989th year of the civilized era. Dating back to the founding of the first royal family and the first kingdoms.
Our story takes place on Planet Blitz, which has one continent known as BAZ. The Empire is a collection of six kingdoms ruled independently by six different royal families all of whom maintain feudal hierarchy lines of succession. The Empire is governed by the Emperor or Empress, which for centuries has been House Sevin. The Empirical Family are also a Great House and rule one of the six kingdoms: The Imperial City, otherwise known as the Kingdom of Blitz — also recognized as the Capital of the Empire.
Subsequently, beneath the Empirical Family are the Great Houses — and underneath them in terms of rank are the bannermen houses — these are less-noble families connected to the immediate branch; oftentimes, distant relatives second, or third removed. The Bannermen Houses are scattered throughout the respective territory of the Great House(s) and rule minor cities, towns and settlements as Lords or Ladies of the Great House(s).
Each kingdom has its own Great House as well as minor-nobility, Bannermen Houses. The Bannermen Houses make up the bulk of each kingdom’s military force or resource farms, and collection of wealth via taxation in each region of the owned territory. Because every kingdom is in service to the empire itself, trade routes are viable between kingdoms under the order of the empire and each kingdom must obey a set of Empirical Laws outside of the kingdom-laws within each respective territory. These are laws enforced only upon the Great Houses of the Blitz Empire.

WEAPONRY
Weaponry in Blitz has not changed much overtime. Most of the forges are still located in trade kingdoms like Odens or Dagar. In Dagar, for example, most of the iron used is from a rare farmed forest of Iron Oak, which is a tree that produces a mineral nearly as strong as iron but much easier to mine and forge. Different regions of the empire specialize in not only forging certain weapons but masterfully using them in combat. Because of this, a swords-trainer in Gedastad may specialize in a particular style of swordsmanship over another in perhaps, Odens.Â
Weapon forges vary between steel and iron, iron oak or sometimes, although uncommon, bronze materials to craft weapons. Most blacksmiths use steel as iron oak is difficult to come by, but less wealthy smiths use a variation of iron and reused material such as repurposed breastplates or chain mails to forge weapons. With bows, there are three types of bow used: longbow, short bow, or recurve bow. All of which are made with wood or iron oak depending on the location it is traded from.
It should also be noted that certain weapons can only be wielded by men or women of great stature or status. For example: a Greatsword is long, bulky, and can weigh up to one-hundred pounds. Not only is it very difficult to carry this type of sword but even more so to wield one in battle. Most knights or soldiers who choose this type of sword as a weapon are masterfully trained in it as well as big enough, or strong enough, to use it effectively.
The rarest form of weapon forging dates back to Year 100 - of the Imperial Calendar in which Echorus and his vassals used Meteor Fragments to forge weapons. To list a few that were infamous in history: The Sword of Baptisia, the Bow of Tjor, the Dagger of the Isles, the Arrow of Styphon, and two short-swords named, The Sister and The Brother. To date, all of these weapons have since been destroyed.
WEAPONS LIST
Longsword - broadsword, bastard sword, hand-in-a-half sword, katana.Â
Shortsword - an arming sword, cut-and-thrust sword, gladiator weapon.
Greatsword - a two-handed weapon, bulky, heavy, also called a Claymore.
Dagger - also referred to as a Dirk, or Long Knife.
Spear - may otherwise be referred to as a Pike, or throwing-spear.
Sabers - referred to as scimitar, a curved bladed weapon, a crop slinger.
Longbow - a larger bow in size, with a long wooden frame and a tightly wound string, used for distance typically.
Shortbow - requiring much more strength, but providing a shorter, harder hit - the killing bow.
Recurve Bow - with treated wood, the framing rod naturally pulls away from the archer allowing the same impact and distance as a longbow, but on a shorter frame.
Polearm - also known as a halberd or glaive, a spear-topped axe.
Mace - a flail or morning star, a blunt force weapon for bludgering.
Short-handle Ax - a one-handed weapon used by northerners, also known as a throwing axe.
Axe - A two-handed weapon although also able to be used with a primary hand.
MEDICINE + HEALTH
The Guild of the Medicus is a staple for every kingdom under the empire. It is an empire-backed organization dedicated to the understanding of the anatomy and treatment of Blitz-kind. There are various forms of treatment depending on the assessment of the wound. For cuts, herbs and extracts may be applied to act as an adhesive as well as dam the bleeding and quicken the reparative tissue. For deeper cuts, a salve may be applied and then sewn with strands of sewing material. For broken bones, a stilt; typically a wooden framework applied around the limb and fastened by several wraps to hold it into place.
When it comes to pain relief, northern based Myr extract or Poppy, or herbal extractions surrounding Eurekesi’s Field of Flowers have been used to quell pain or stop it altogether for a period of time. Myr is also used in the form of an alcoholic beverage known as Myrmede.
NATURE + WILDLIFE
Although our setting is a work of fiction there are many things we have chosen to adopt from our general reality. One of the things we’ve chosen to stay resilient in and change as little as possible is the wildlife and nature aspect of our world. There are bears, horses, deer, elephants, dogs, cats, etc. There are seasons, there are holidays and ceremonies; although they may not be the customs we are typically used to in our own respective cultures. For example, the ceremonies in Gedastad are going to differ from those being celebrated in Odens, or Sorgas, et cetera.Â
It’s important to play to the setting and sing its song. It’s also important to understand the natural habitat of the animals and wildlife you will be writing within your threads. A polar bear wouldn’t very well be lurking the streets of the Imperial City. Be sure to exercise a level of common sense when applying these themes and concepts.Â
