Shinra didn't just chase every single little rumor about the Promised Land or Ancient sites that could possibly help them find it — but this one held at least enough weight for them to let it go entirely ignored, and so Reno had been sent on a top secret mission to find and investigate the hidden underground cave. Equipped with a small sensor, an entrance was found around the given area quickly enough, though so small that it'd make many people claustrophobic — though Reno just hoped the way in wasn't entirely as tight, he might be thin but he'd hate to get stuck.

With a sigh, he went on ahead to squish himself through the gap between the rocks, thankfully finding out soon enough that the space within was large enough to stand. "'least I don't gotta crawl...", Reno mumbled to himself, taking a look at the little sensor device, and sure enough, the lifestream readings were much stronger in here already. If the rumors were to be believed, this cave was supposed to not only house a spring, but an Ancient site as well, and Shinra suspected there might be clues and even a lead to the Promised Land.

He went on ahead, intending to find the spring first — the Ancients used those to harness the power of the Lifestream after all, so find them and you'll find ruins, at least in theory. It was better than nothing — if only the Turk didn't feel like he had eyes glued to his back. He was supposed to be all alone in here, and even the areas where the rumor had been caught had no clue of the actual whereabouts of the cave, so no one should know, unless... Perhaps they stumbled upon it by chance. But the area outside was way too dangerous for someone to just be taking a walk and being like 'oh, what's this?' — so Reno quickly turned on his heel, eyes scanning his surroundings. It was quiet, but someone was there — or he was going paranoid.

"If someone's there, you better show yourself. I ain't for playin' hide an' seek right now."

When Reno came to, his first reflex was to take a deep breath — only to almost break into a coughing fit, as the strong inhale did not only take in air, but the dust it was filled with. As he shifted his position, removing some lighter debris from him while trying to sit up, the memory of what had happened that got him into this situation returned to him. Another encounter between Turks and Avalanche — this time interrupted by a large fiend, causing the already unstable, crumbling ruins they had clashed upon to break beneath their feet. Reno remembered falling, losing sight of the other Turks and Avalanche both from all the dust and debris, and then... He woke up down here. Wherever the hell 'down here' was, exactly.

"Fuck...", he muttered to himself as he just sat there for a moment, resting his elbows atop his knees, hands dangling. He looked around, but the darkness and dust fog made it hard to see. Except — Reno was pretty sure he was vaguely making out feet sticking out from underneath a larger rock. Curious, he wasted no time to get up and make his way over, peering around the other end of the rock before doing anything to help — out of all people, the person stuck underneath was him.

"Hah!", the Turk laughed — but laughing hurt (and here he was wondering how he didn't get hurt from that fall), so his laughter ceased into a suppressed groan instead. "Ugh, if it ain't SOLDIER boy. Not so tough now, are ya?"

Reno had been sitting on the church's floor in a relaxed position, right at the flower bed as Aerith was tending to them — however, his gaze wandered elsewhere, away from her and the flowers, darting off as he was thinking about random things to pass the time. It wasn't until he heard his own name echo through the church that he returned his attention to the girl — whose face he'd already seen coming closer from the corner of his eye — only to be met by her lips on his own. A clumsy peck rather than a kiss, and yet it was so sudden that it threw Reno off of his train of thought and he lingered a second longer than he intended to before pulling away, eyes widened slightly before he raised an eyebrow, squinting at her as he laughed softly.

Reno's head felt heavy with a dull, pressuring pain as he slowly came to, eyelids fluttering open, blurry gaze greeted by the faintest light. He tried to remember what happened last but his head only complained with more pain, so he opted to shift his uncomfortable position to a more comfortable one instead, but found that he was tied down, which only raised even more questions. An attempt to pull, tug, and shake at the rope bound around his wrists however caused him to bump against something, or, someone — and instantly, the Turk turned as far as he could, the familiar shade of blonde and the white, now dirtied suit falling into his field of view. Suddenly, the memory returned to him — how he was supposed to be Rufus' bodyguard on a mission, how they were ambushed by what he supposed was an anti-Shinra group, and then... Then he woke up here. And now knowing that Rufus was here too, that that group had taken both of them, Reno was suddenly wide awake.

"Shit...", he muttered to himself, looking around, but their surroundings were too dark to see much, so he'd have to free himself of these ropes first — free them both. The president's safety had top priority, even if Reno wished he would've not let it gotten this far in the first place. He nudged the other man with his shoulder and elbow, hoping he'd be alright.

"Hey, boss, wake up!"

It was a quiet night, aside from the usual jungle sound — Reno was half-sitting, sprawled over a bench just outside the Gongaga village, forced to rest as he should have if he had listened to the medical staff who had treated him back in Midgar. But instead, he just had to go out and do something (not to mention, he wanted to be back in the field with the other Turks again asap) — which in this case was seek out the training facilities scattered all over Gongaga — to not be bored to death, to not... have his thoughts wander. The silence wasn't helping and even if he had TV to watch, music to listen to or some magazine to read, it was still hard not to drift back into his endlessly circling thoughts.

So instead of just looking at the moon or all the greenery now, he decided to get up and off the bench again — which caused a few spots throughout his body to complain by hurting or feeling even more sore — and just start walking. The grass, various plants and loose leaves crunched softly beneath his feet as he took aimless steps ahead — and continued to crunch even as he came to a halt. He turned on his heel, and, much to his surprise, spotted a familiar face, gently illuminated by the moonlight.

He didn't expect to see her here — with him currently being off work, no one had been telling him anything of what was going on. When he was in Costa del Sol, he did hear about some ruckus on the beach and the descriptions he picked up from locals and tourists as he walked on by had sounded like it could've been SOLDIER boy and the rest of Avalanche, but he had no confirmation whether it was really them. Not like he cared a whole lot while he wasn't on the clock, but he had to admit to himself that he was glad to see Aerith unharmed.

"Well well, if it ain't little miss flower seller." His playful tone was accompanied by a grin, which only moments later mellowed into a more genuine smile. "Good to see ya in one piece."
