Bliss and voiD

I guess I should celebrate a bit since Tumblr came back after it got wrongly blocked by this incompetent government. (And to think online casinos were still active during the time Tumblr was blocked.)

This was at Malia’s while we’re doing some food crawl in San Juan.

So I just saw the original Beetlejuice film on HBO. I know I’m 36 years too late and i was only curious because the sequel is coming this week. I’ve seen the character before and saw a clip of the Banana song but don’t know anything other than that.

First of all, it was a weird title. It’s based on the character by Michael Keaton but why was it spelled that way? According to a quick google search, has something to do with marketing for Halloween. I guess it works that it’s easier to remember, and also how he did charade to let Lydia know his name. It seems like he can’t say it himself lest he be banished away. Anyway his name is Betelgeuse, named after the brightest star in the Orion constellation. If I had seen this when i was a kid, i would be more confused because I thought that was pronounced as beh-tell-geese. Anyway we learn as we grow old hahah.

The cast is phenomenal. I know Geena Davis from Stuart Little, etc. I know Alec’s impressions as Trump on SNL. I know Catherine as Moira Rose. I know Winona Ryder as the mom from Stranger Things. And I know Michael Keaton as one of the greatest Batman and Vulture on Spiderman Homecoming. In this film, the chemistry is great. I can feel it between the Maitlands, their concern for Lydia, and the erratic energy from Delia, and chaos personified with Betelgeuse.

By no means is this a great film but I love the energy of the film. Some effects are very dated but I can see the vision of Tim Burton. It’s the same dark, sinister vibe throughout his films with that twisted sense of humor. Is he directing the sequel? I can’t wait how this turns out.

Castlevania: Nocturne Review

When Warren Ellis’s Castlevania ended back in 2021, I was sad it ended but if felt like we have a good story and ending for our protagonists and it doesn’t need a sequel. Who wants to see Trevor and Sypha raising a baby anyway?

Then Castlevania Nocturne happened 2 years later. Now created by Clive Bradley instead. It had a lot of similar vibes as its predecessor. But somehow, I still kinda miss Trevor’s banters.

Our new heroes are Richter Belmont and Maria Renard from the Rondo of Blood game but their designs are from the PSP remake Dracula X Chronicles especially Maria’s pink ensemble, while Richter kept his shorter hairstyle from the original.

I like the backstories for a new character, Anette, who was a minor character from the original, into a former slave girl turned revolutionary with the power of earth and steel. Olrox, another character from Symphony of the Night, was changed from a typical vampire to a vampire with Aztec origins from the New World (the first series was set in Europe so mostly vampires then were pale and white with some Asian looking vampires mixed in so the change to Olrox is welcome). We also have a speaker (mage) and a demon forger character and a paladin type character. They add flavor to the story, I’ll just say that heheh.

For the villains, Dracula is no more, stuck in the corridors of hell from last we saw in the origseries. We have vampire/succubus type character. Morrigan and Demitri from Darkstalkers can never char. Then the new big bad is Erzsebet Bathory, a fusion of the historical countess/serial killer and Sekhmet, Egyptian goddess of war. Idk how that works, does vampirism make your bronze skin pale? Idk.

The combat scenes are ok, they’re good. I like how Richter can fuse magic with his whip, that kinda feels like something Nathan Graves from Circle of the Moon does but who cares. Maria retained her powers summoning cute versions of the shijin (Suzaku, Seiryu, Byakko, Genbu) and idk how she learned that, was she secretly Asian? Well the original game is made in Japan, so that’s the reason probably. There isn’t a fight scene that’s epic like from the original series, like that fight of Isaac vs the Magician and Legion, and the fight with Trevor vs Death. Maybe, they’re reserving the epic ones next season? If we have another one heheh.

Also, I audibly gasped after the final scene. That scene alone warrants a next season.

Overall, i liked it. Has a lot of potential.

A Very Good Girl

I promise to be spoiler free, but fuck it. Just watch it and mag-agree na lang na it’s really good.

Due to insistent public demand (char lang walang demand at wala naman public, si John lang namilit samin na panoorin to) we finally gave in (finally? eh kanina lang naman kami sinabihan) and saw the last full show sa SM. Sayang hindi man lang nangalahati ang seats. Dapat mas marami tumangkilik ng ganitong pelikula pero… in this economy? Ok diff topic na yarn.

Anyhoo, I really liked this film. I’m surprised ba comedy sya. Well feel mong bakla yung nagdirek nito (ewan ko na lang kung di ka bex kung ang name mo ay Petersen char). It somehow reminds you of scenes from Devil Wears Prada or Mean Girls pero still carving its own story. I love the energy between Dolly and Kathryn. You want one character to win so bad pero it takes time and when you get to that finish line, you can taste the sweet taste of victory. Ang sarap. Putangina. Pero kulang pa. I want more. Pero grabe ang sarap. Parang yung feeling ni Bella Aldama nung nakapaghiganti na sya kay Angelica, parang ganun pero gayer hahah.

Happy ending ba to tanong ni John. For me yes, pero in real life it’s a hollow victory. Pero I’ll take it na because hello di naman to mangyayari satin in real life duh hahah.

Pag di mo nagets tong sinulat ko, shunga ka panoorin mo kasi muna. Pag nagets mo, mag-usap tayo. Pag pinanood mo na tapos di mo pa rin nagets tong sinulat ko, magkita na lang tayo sa barangay dahil I’ll see you in hell wearing red stillettos. Charot lang. Binakla ko lang masyado tong review.

Just wanna share I finished watching this yesterday even though it’s WD+1 (the audacity, i know!) well before I knew I had plenty of things to finish up pala before SAP close at 7am. Anywho, I just visited Netflix and am supposed to finish Witcher s3 pero this was on my the recommendations.

They know me so well char. I don’t really watch a lot of Asian films/movies pero I gave it a shot. Also, i know I’m a few months late na for this one.

It’s a cutesy gay themed movie that’s part comedy and part detective/actionish. I’m using that last part of the desc loosely.

Also, none of the cast are gays irl if my googling is reliable pero Austin Lin is so adorbz and hot as well. Sakin ka na lang sana baby. Greg Han is funny as the lead, best part is him pole dancing naked chz

Family is in the emotional core of the film and that always make me cry.

I like how they tied the loose threads by the end. It’s not the best film to come out recently but this certainly is a happy feel good one. Plus: You can have English vocals on if you’re too lazy to read subs.

I can’t change hearts so I just sit around and wait.

Encanto

I’m 2 years late to see this movie. It’s a heartwarming story about a family with gifts living somewhere in Colombia. The songs are catchy as well.

This is like X-Men but without evil supervillains, and lots of singing and choreography. Well, you could say Abuela is the villain char. If I had a gift, I also want to shapeshift (something I picked up from Morph back from the 90s animated series idk).

I recommend to anyone who hasn’t seen it yet. It’s on Disney+.

Should we celebrate the times we’re up? We might not get much of these, albeit fleeting.

These uncontrollable episodes of emptiness… feels like these will go on forever until we find temporary respite. A moment, a spark, a tune. Whatever you find to drown out the shadows.
