I am alive!
Kinda.
Hopefully I can get some writing done today. I don't want to make promises I can't keep though-- work has been absolutely insane but it's been a very good thing because...
āHahaha!ā A bubbled up burst of laughter erupted from Strelitziaās lips, her hand curling up against her mouth to stifle the amusement that permeated through her. Never had she thought that Riku was the type of person to be so humorous. Not that she was complaining. It reminded her of another gray haired boy who looked stiff on the outside, but held a secret gentleness.Ā
It helped to break the ice between them and Strelitzia felt her awkwardness melt away as their laughter rang in time with each other.Ā
āI donāt know! Sounds like it might be a herd mentality!ā
Maybe she was pushing her luck with the corny jokes, but she thought it was a good one.
Maybe it was a sad reflection of himself at just how easily Riku could come up with several more cow-related puns to continue on the joke exchange. Aw man, your delivery totally butchered that joke. Or maybe, it's clearly bovine intervention that we started talking. Totally cringe worthy but there was something pure about the humor of a pun. They were groan worthy and horrible, but the equal parts amusement and disgust at them seemed near-universal.
"If anyone overheard us, they'd think we were talking udder nonsense."
Okay just one more-
"So is this how you say hello to all the strangers you meet?" If so, Riku couldn't deny that it seemed effective. He might have felt silly, but not anxious. A definitely step up for him.
"I'm Riku, though I think you already knew that. Do you... know me?" It wouldn't be the first time that he came across someone who knew him despite Riku having no memory of them. All he could do was chalk it up to having a bad memory, though part of him felt like it was perhaps something he needed to be just a bit worried over.
@rcstoration asked: " take it easy. you're safe now, but you need to relax. " for the sender to greet a waking receiver after having found them badly wounded and on the brink of collapse at their doorstep.
As he had gotten older, Riku had gotten better at learning the tells for whenever an attack was coming on. It wasn't always just feeling the intense tightening in his chest, though that did commonly come along with it. It was the taste of copper that was a surefire sign things were about to get bad and that he needed to sit down, fast, or else his body would find itself on the ground regardless of what he had wanted.
Sometimes it was just a brief moment where he needed to let his head stop spinning and other times it felt like he was being run through, his heart pounding furiously in his chest as his head felt like it was being split open from the inside out. Sometimes time passed painfully slowly, turning into a crawl with each second ticking by in what felt like a span of days or weeks, and other times he found himself blinking up at a clock that had skipped forward hours at a time.
Riku couldn't remember walking to Roxas' home (he also wasn't sure he knew where the blond lived, but subconscious Riku seemed to be a lot smarter than conscious Riku), but he was aware of the awful taste in his mouth and the strange, cotton feeling that had filled his head and run down into his veins.
"Huh?"
He swallowed hard as he looked down. The silver-haired man had been standing on a front stoop and he found himself taking a step back, legs feeling like they were wobbling for a moment before he was able to fully catch his balance. What was that-- what had happened...?
At least it didn't seem to be too late in the day.
Riku stared at his hands for a moment before looking up at Roxas. The other still seemed concerned, but he tried to do his best to reassure him that he was okay. That he was... as okay as he could be, at least. "I... I'm fine. Must have just... gotten distracted and wound up here. Don't worry about me, okay?"
@shineupon from [x]
He wasn't crazy. He promised he wasn't. Riku was just sometimes...
Spacy? Air headed? Neither of those really felt quite right but - good enough in a pinch he supposed.
The frustrating mumbling hadn't been to anyone. He wasn't on a phone call. He was coming out of a doctor's appointment, one that had gone... poorly he supposed, or at least in his opinion. Really it was more just that nothing had come from it, but it still felt like his every thought and word and expression was jotted down at the doctor did little more than let out some quiet hmms whenever Riku said anything.
He wasn't seeing therapist. This was supposed to be a doctor for his heart issues. So why did it feel like-
"Huh?"
His gaze snapped to the side, hidden behind a pair of dark sunglasses, to see a young woman standing there. Riku was positive he had never met her before, though that didn't stop him from feeling oddly nostalgic at the sight of her. And--
Oh.
"Oh, um. Thanks." A vivid red blush immediately stained his cheeks at realization that he had been caught venting out loud. Great. Just what he needed now, a reputation for being crazy on top of everything else. "It really... it really isn't. Probably just me being over dramatic and stressed out." Trying to play it down was the way he most often dealt with the anxieties of his life; it was hard to be upset over them if you just denied there was any reason to be upset.
"It is... pretty kind of you to ask, though. Something you do for all the crazy men you see wandering the streets?" It was meant to come off as a joke, though Riku wouldn't be surprised to discover that it just fell flat.

Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā āŗ SORA LOOKED AT THE OTHERĀ with an unamused expression on his face. Seriously? All he did was process medical forms? Talk about a boring life. His assumptions of this Riku being a social recluse were turning out to be true the more he opened his mouth to speakĀ &Ā now he was just picturing the guy in a dark room surrounded by cats while he baby talked to them which caused him to shiver.
With a roll of his eyes , he briskly took the bags from the silverette's handsĀ &Ā began walking. Ā āĀ Yeah , yeah. I'm a man of my word.Ā āĀ The cool night air felt good ,Ā &Ā when the other commented on his complexion , he suddenly had the violent urge to abandon him. Did he really look that bad? Well , if he did , he certainly wasn't feeling the way he looked. He felt completely okay.
āĀ Don't worry about it. I'll be fine. Been worse.Ā āĀ A shrug as he continued walking in silence until they ultimately came to a fork in the roadĀ &Ā he then handed over Riku's stuff. Ā āĀ Right so , here you go. Have a good eveningĀ &Ā don't get drowned in your sea of cats , alright?Ā ā
His job wasn't exciting which was a large part of the point. That, and it was part of an arrangement between the company he was working for and his father to help cover the cost of the medical care that had been piling up over the course of Riku's life. Boring was better than being unemployed, and boring was better than going without treatment, even if the treatment didn't seem like it was actually helping much.
You just need to be patient. You just need to give it some more time. His father's voice echoed in his thoughts and for a moment Riku found himself pressing his lips together into a thin line. Patient felt like all he even was. Why was it so bad to start feeling like sitting around quietly wasn't getting any results?
Something in Sora's attitude shifted rather abruptly. Riku would have dwelled on it further if a familiar metallic taste flooded his mouth. He stiffened, nodding without really paying attention to what was being said.
"Yeah--" The response was cut off and mumbled out as Riku took the bag from Sora. Off to the right was a road that led to a small set of houses and it wouldn't be hard to pick out the one that he lived in. It was small but more than big enough for just him, and it gave him the privacy he needed to hide away from the world when he needed to.
Like now.
It wasn't like Riku wasn't curious about Sora, but the brunet had been given off every sign and vibe that he wanted nothing to do with him outside of spending some idle time with him to burn off some boredom. And it certainly had been one of the more interesting nights that Riku had in awhile, but he remembering why exciting things didn't mix well with his life.
The bags were juggled to be held in one arm as easily as he could as Riku fumbled for his keys while stepping up on the small deck to the front door. Please, if an attack was going to happen now, at least let him make it inside first.
@antheliia from [x]
It was only after he had spoke that Riku was aware of just what a strange thing that was to say to someone. At best it sounded like a poor attempt for a pick-up line, and at worst it gave off odd almost stalker vibes. Neither had been what he had been going for and he cringed slightly as a result, waiting to have her tell him off for being so strange.
"Ah- no, not really. I mean I've never said anything like that to anyone else before." And he wasn't exactly making it any better with how much he was flubbing the conversation and steadily shoving his foot back into his mouth.
Riku rubbed at the nape of his neck before offering the young woman a small smile. "You ever get the feeling of deja-vu, like... you've already done something you're doing? I got hit with... the weirdest feeling that we've meet before, though I'm pretty certain we never have." He was absolutely certain he would remember seeing her around before - and it felt like he did remember, though Riku couldn't even begin to place where that might have been.
"I'm, uh... I'm Riku Weber. And this is also probably my cue to... leave you alone and stop being so weird."
Hello-!
Sorry if I'm been a bit quiet. I'm probably going to fall out of my queue and off of replying for a few days. It's been a mixture of work and some other-- stuff! I don't really think it's too appropriate or necessary to get into here.
Everything should be okay in a bit, and I'm really sorry for dragging my heels on anything. I may try to send out a few asks or reblog a meme but I make no promises.
Be well/stay safe/yadda yadda yadda.
It wouldn't do very well to let the boy die, now would it? Sure, his older self in all his grand plans and evil schemes would laugh at the thought. 'Let the boy die, it only keeps them all away longer.' He can hear it so clearly in his head as he watches Riku walk along the concrete beam.
"You're interested in what I believe? I have to say, that is surprising." He tilts his head, watching him carefully for any signs that he might fall. ".. I do. I didn't always, of course, but I suppose once someone sees the things I have, they begin to believe in all manner of impossibilities."
At the question, Xeha finally looks down, the streak of headlights below were almost calming. Like staring down at a meteor shower.
"You would. Even if the fall itself didn't do it, I'm sure being turned into roadkill will." Xeha turns his gaze back to Riku, "I can't say it would be quick or even solve your problem. Though, that is your choice to make, isn't it, Riku?"
He really wasn't looking to try to die. It was just hard to come to grips with the overwhelming feeling that he... couldn't. That even if he tried to take a step forward, something would reach out to snag him back. It was a strange feeling that skirted along the veins of thought that this was nothing more than a simulation. A fabricated reality designed to-- to--
Hearing his name had his head snapping around to face the stranger.
Riku hadn't missed what the stranger's earlier response had been, but it had been like trying to listen to something while his head was buried beneath sand. It all had felt and sounded so distant and full of static that none of it had registered. All of that had gone away with the singular sound of his name, though, erasing the dreamlike feeling the moment had and replacing it with something far more cold and unsettling.
He was cold. A t-shirt and jeans were hardly appropriate clothing to wear while standing so high up with the wind enthusiastically playing with his hair.
"What did you see that made you start believing?" The question of how the stranger knew his name was ignored for the moment as Riku's gaze, concealed behind dark glasses, narrowed at the other.

Sora sent his own text of his name to Riku's phone as well. The grin on his face being one that held pure happiness behind it.
"It was nice meeting you too! Bye Macaroni."
He waved to them both, waiting for Riku to turn away before running off in the other direction
He had been texting Riku since they had parted ways and if Sora was honest he was glad he had taken the chance and became friends with Riku. It felt like they had been old friends forever.
He was at the coffee shop he worked part time at. Considering it was that deep cleaning day he had mentioned to Riku when he remembered that conversation he would look out the windows to see if he could find his new friend.
Sora kicked the rolling bucket of mop water toward the door. If it spilled it wasn't like they were going to have customers anyway. He dug his phone out of the pocket of his apron and checked to see if he had any messages at all. So far it was a quiet night.
He never would have imagined him to be the type of person that found any sense of joy in texting pointlessly, nor would he have thought it would just feel so natural or easy. Despite feeling excited over getting Sora's number, Riku had anticipated that he would just... find it feeling a bit too awkward to follow through with actually trying to keep in touch with him. That their communications and interactions would have fallen to the wayside. But instead it all just felt comfortable. Not like an awkward burden he had to struggle to remember to do, but an activity he actively looked forward to and enjoyed.
[txt to SORA] look [txt to SORA] it's them [txt to SORA] image.png
The invitation to meet up at Sora's place of work had been one made on a whim and one Riku hadn't really thought he'd be taking him up on, so it was hard to say who would be more surprised when he found himself standing outside of the cafe mentioned. It was after midnight and it was hard to ignore just how much of a certified creep he felt in the moment, but his nerves were mostly a bundle of excited energy as he bounced on the balls of his feet outside of the shop after sending Sora off a quick text announcing he was there.
Darkness... A stray through was creeping into Riku's mind as he turned to glance out at the empty streets. For such a big city, it felt so... empty at times. And while nighttime normally felt safe and comforting, in this moment it felt strangely empty and almost-
"Ah!"
A startled yelp escaped him at the sound of something smacking against the glass window - a hand, most likely - caught him off guard.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā āŗ A SMALL LAUGH PAST HIS LIPSĀ before he held his hands up to show Riku he didn't mean to make him upset , but he'd be lying if he said he wasn't enjoying this. The silverette's words contradicted his actionsĀ &Ā he wondered if he could push his buttons even more.
Ā āĀ Mmm~ Don't worry. The redhead doesn't seem dangerous. So the chances of me actually winding up in a ditch are about 20 percent. The guy seems to be the passionate lover kinda guy , which means he'll be good in bed. Really , the only thing I have to worry about is whether or not I'll be walking tomorrow.Ā ā
He stuck his tongue out before shruggingĀ &Ā turning on his heel. He had wasted enough time messing with RikuĀ &Ā now he was running late to his little date.Ā āĀ See you around Riku. Stay out of trouble , okay~?Ā ā
One hand clenched tightly as Riku bit down on the inside of his lip. Was Sora really so oblivious? Did he really not see the effect his words were having? Not that-- not that it was Sora's job to make sure that Riku wasn't upset or bothered by what he did. The brunet's actions were entirely his own business. Riku was little more than a... a friend. A concerned friend. That was all.
But it wasn't stopping him from feeling so strangely sick in the pit of his stomach, and hearing Sora talk about how hard he was going to run off and get f-
A hand reached out to almost against his will to snag Sora's wrist. This time his grip was firm. Not painful, but it would take more than just a slight tug to be freed. Riku didn't look straight at Sora either as he did, staring off somewhere to the side as his mind raced.
"... You shouldn't go, Sora."
To be quite fair, Ienzo hadnāt been paying particular attention to where he was going, either - earbuds in, lecture playing on his tablet as he walked with a messenger bag of text books over his shoulder. Fitting in with the citizens of Quadratum wasnāt nearly as difficult as heād hypothesized back home, when theyād finally gotten a clue to what had happened to the others. It had been risky and neither Ansem nor Even were particular fond of Ienzoās plan, but with some modifications to the beam that let them enter Ansemās computer, they were able to send Ienzo to a different world.
And was it ever different! Used to the comparatively tiny city of Radiant Garden, Quadratum was daunting with itās towering buildings that seemed to plunge into the sky itself and more people than Ienzo had ever seen. Heād felt out of place immediately. Unfamiliar worlds wasnāt a new concept - heād explored a fair share as Zexion, but this was so different than anything heād dealt with before. It took him a while to settle in for the long haul - heād already expected that this world would not be easy to search for any of the missing guardians and, though theyād theorized time moved differently in this world, theyād had to no way to calculate how quickly - or slowly - it moved.
Lost in the lecture heād been watching, taking mental notes along the way, Ienzo had, for the most part, managed to weave his way in and out of the crowd, but then he was jostled backwards, shoes scuffing against the disjointed sidewalk, almost losing his tablet, before he caught his balance. The other person wasnāt so lucky and Ienzo quickly slipped his belongings into his bag to free his hands to help.
āPardon me, I didnāt see you.ā He noted the the teen reaching around him for glasses and phone, and bent over to pick up the glasses that had skittered out of reach. āLet me give you a hand, itās my fault for not paying attention.āĀ
He finally actually looked at the teen and, to his surprise, though he was shielding his eyes and obscuring his face, Ienzo recognized him. āYouāre - Iām sorry. Riku, if Iām not mistaken?ā
Something quiet that could have been a thanks was mumbled out beneath Riku's breath as the stranger offered him back his glasses. He wasn't upset with the other, but it was hard to ignore the sting of humiliation that felt like it was skittering up his spine and staining his cheeks red. It was easy to keep his head lowered and pretend like he didn't feel everyone staring at him, but it was harder to keep up that act when his own ineptitude was shoved back into his face. In moments like these he found himself wishing he could somehow just sink into the earth and vanish.
It was hard to imagine the moment could become even worse, but Riku found himself proven wrong when the stranger uttered what felt like the worst set of words out loud to him:
"You're - I'm sorry, Riku, if I'm not mistaken?"
Riku felt his blood run cold as he slipped the glasses on while slowly looking up at the other. The young man sparked no memory or hint of recognition outside of the normal sharp buzz of static that burst through Riku's thoughts whenever he tried to really remember anything. Had they met before? Where could they have met before? There were really only two places that Riku frequented and he hoped a resident working at the hospital wouldn't think it was okay to act like they knew one of their patients out in public.
It left... "Uh... yeah." There was no hiding the hesitation in his voice when Riku answered him while slowly getting back to his feet. "You... must work with my dad, then. Sorry, I don't... know your name."
@replica-r from [x]
Riku let out a soft laugh at his brother's response to his praise. It was easy to see through the bravado - faking confidence was Riku's specialty, and a side-effect of that was being able to tell when others were trying to do the same. The secret would be safe with him and his lips would be sealed, but that didn't stop him from being highly amused.
"You know I wouldn't tell if you stopped showing up."
The fencing class was new. Considering how Xehanort always seemed to stress Riku not participate in anything that could cause him physical harm (bad for the heart after all), he had been surprised when his - their - father had informed the two that they would be starting lessons together. As a bonding exercise, or at least that was how it had been described. There had to be an ulterior motive but when it came to what Riku found himself drawing a blank.
And fencing was something he had found himself taking to rather quickly, much to his own surprise. It didn't feel quite right, but... holding a sword also didn't feel wrong, even something as unsword like as a fencing epee.
"Is there something else you want to do? I can help cover."
"Finna time to catch me some ghost pussy." The words were said to himself as Riku took a seat on his sofa, cats eyeing him with clear judgment.
"... what? There might be a cat in the game."

Neptune by Sleeping At Last
I'm only honest when it rains. If I time it right, the thunder breaks When I open my mouth. I want to tell you but I don't know how. I'm only honest when it rains, An open book with a torn out page, And my ink's run out. I want to love you but I don't know how.
Ghost by Jacob Lee
Ghost, I see you standing there Don't turn away, I want you to stay Ghost, what's your name? Why so surprised? I'm interested You're just a soul that blends into the crowd I hear you so loud no one else hears a sound You reach out your hand no one else feels a thing And I'm just a stranger who could be a friend You could have been so great I won't let you slip away Is there any hope for us left Even a ghost needs a friend You could have been someone But you let them into your head I want you to know this instead That I see the light in your chest
It was something he didnāt have too much time to ponder on. Most of the questions that Riku had vanished when he heard someone moving around inside. āDa-?ā The words died on his lips as he froze, staring at a face that was identical to his.
Nearly identical.
Maybe he was imagining things, but their eyes didnāt seem to be quite the same shade, and the hair was just a bit off, with his own being shorter. Beyond that, thoughā¦
There was a hot spark of something that felt like an electrical fire that ripped through his skull, but the pain felt strangely⦠dulled as his body shifted into auto-pilot. Forget fight or flight; dissociation and going numb was the real way to handle threatening situations. The stranger clearly was on guard - or had been, before collapsing back into the sofa. Riku just eyed him flatly as he took a few steps forward, stepping not quite up to the stranger and more around him, clearly intending to circle around the sofa to get behind where he was sitting.
āI feel like I should be the one asking you that. Youāre in my dadās house.ā That they looked alike wasā¦
Oh.
The pain was still there, but it melted into a sudden burst of anger that felt like it was burning through his veins. Oh. Oh. So many things seemed to click together at once. Why his father always seemed to hate Riku so much, why he wanted to get rid of him as soon as possible, why they had left the islands after his mother died-
āHoly shit. You have to be some bastard affair baby, huh.ā
āThe fuckās your problem?ā He barely managed to grind out the question as soon as he heard the other person (himself?) call him a ābastard affair babyā. His head still ached and screamed at him, but he braved the pain to glare at the stranger. Why was he getting closer? He got to his feet and backed away from him.
āIām... Iām me,ā he said. Now that he was looking at the other person again, he was getting flickers of images... memories? Bright lights. Resignation, and yet... resolve. And love. So much love that it hurt. There was also the sense of wrongness. Like he wasnāt meant to remember this. He grit his teeth. Whoever this person was, he seemed pretty upset about his being here. Not only that, but he also appeared to be related to Dad. The stranger maybe even knew Dad better than he could. And there was something so off about him... he couldnāt place his finger on it. He crossed his arms. āIām nobodyās bastard kid. I barely know Dad beyond the fact he owns this house. I donāt have any memory of anything before this morning... I donāt even know how I got here.ā
Why was he telling him this? He had no reason to trust this person... but his heart told him that he could. He could trust this person with his very life. Why did he feel this way? He bent down to pick up the remote and turned off the TV. It helped to alleviate the headache a little. He still placed a hand on his head, groaning a bit at the pain. Maybe making direct eye contact with the inexplicable source of your pain wasnāt the brightest idea.
āWho the hell are you, anyway?ā he asked, looking down at the strangerās shoes. At least staring at those didnāt make his head explode. āIām... My name is... Itās Riku... I think.ā
It felt wrong on his lips somehow, despite being the only name he could link to himself. He shook his head.
He was angry. He was furious. The feeling was a near-blinding white hot bolt of rage that was coursing through his being and hearing the other man call himself Riku only made it worse. He wasn't Riku! That-!
That...
Ah.
It took just a moment for the righteous fury to fizzle away into something that was nearly... nothing. It was a strangely tired feeling coupled with a slight pang of hurt, a soft ha, and resignation. So much resignation.
"Sit down. You look like you're in pain." Riku stopped and, instead of moving closer, backed up to give the other space.
"My name is Riku... too. Also Riku. Which... means that the old bastard really isn't that creative when it comes to naming his kids." It was said with an expression that could have been called a smile, though it felt a bit too hollow to really match. A bit too sad, really.
"I'm-- I'm sorry. I didn't mean to-" Startle him? Insult him? Scare him? All of the above, but Riku just settle on letting out a heavy, wistful sigh as he reached up to rub at the back of his head. Man, this was a mess.
"Xehanort's my dad. Sounds like he's your dad too and sounds like he's the one we should be upset with."
