*A* - we get the tattoos on Monday.....The fact you get the date wrong concerns me. Will you be ready on Monday? Or still be waiting for another day? A later day? It's too easy to reschedule, change, forget, delete things... and also not easy enough. I like the idea of doing what is not so easily reversed, to commit to a moment, to commemorate and make a memory. I don't know if I would get a tattoo connected to a lover. I considered it only once... But it doesn't scare me to get a tattoo connected to a friend, and especially you, because even if we fall out, it will be true to the time we have had. It's too easy to delete and revise digitally. Maybe I want to challenge that IRL. I read recently on some blog or another that the latest craze is tattoo removal, and it's super painful, more than getting a tattoo. Maybe it's kind of like how it's more complicated and expensive to get a divorce than to get married. It's easier to get out than in, inked than removed. Anyways how brave are we really? And how crazy? It's not like I am getting "A" tattooed on my face. That would be crazy. We are getting a symbol that represents an idea that is relevant only to us, and only reveals itself when we explain. Like now. Oh and btw, I used to live with a guy who had the name of his first wife tattooed on his chest. That always disturbed me, all the girls that slept with him and would be staring down at her name. He never got another tattoo again. I was with a guy for three years who had a square tattooed on his shoulder, just a black square, and it was only near the end that he revealed that square covered another tattoo, one he wouldn't describe, and I felt then like I had known him a little less than I had. I slept with a guy recently who had three very big tattoos, on his back arm and chest. Before he undressed he asked me, with some trepidation, if I "liked tattoos" . I liked seeing them. I liked them being shared with me. When people see mine, all of mine, because of where they are placed, it is always intimate, a revealing. They are signposts of my history. People always ask me "but what if you get sick of this design or idea?" and I think that misses the point entirely. Of course you change and feel differently. You are always changing. No design can represent you forever. But what you *can* do is represent a period in your life, and a concept or feeling that meant something then. Oh and aren't we way off topic? How does this connect to why we are here? On here? What is all this about? How do these posts relate? Maybe about what you can and can't delete? Can and can't erase? And why write this all online? Why do we write anything online? Share with who and why? What for *A* What for? - B
