My mixed media assemblages/box constructions use rescued materials, found objects, antique pieces, natural elements, fabric, and a variety of mediums. I am intrigued by the narrative or poetic potential of assemblage art. The assemblages develop through a process of experimentation and contemplation. Some of the works reference cabinets of curiosity or reliquaries, both of which house or honour extraordinary experiences. Others arise from an intuitive response to the potentiality of the objects or materials themselves. I also create works on commission using materials given to me, plus materials from my collections, and after discussions with the person who is requesting the work. These semi-biographical pieces are developed through an intuitive response to memories and objects.   Recently I have been working on series/groups of assemblages with an underlying theme. These can be viewed as complete installations or as individual pieces.

Bedlam Series In 1998,  I visited an exhibition at the Museum of London on the Bethlem Royal Hospital, Europe’s oldest psychiatric hospital which was colloquially known as "Bedlam" for most of its history. Included in the exhibit were a number of 19th century photographic portraits of certain patients. These portraits inspired the Bedlam Series. The assemblages include photos of imaginary Bedlam patients, with texts, objects and images which reference their sleeping dreams. http://www.bethlemheritage.org.uk/aboutus.asp
