(trigger warning under the cut: drugs, cancer)
Ameile was born prematurely on August 11, 1995 to Andrew and Alice. Her mother was a drug addict and though Andrew pleaded with his wife to give up her vices when they found out they were pregnant with their first child, she did not. Aside from being seven weeks early, Ameile was a fighter and the Leightons brought her home when she was two months old.
When Ameile was two, Andrew divorced from his wife, winning full custody of their child. Ameile’s father raised his daughter and worked tirelessly, hoping to provide for everything his little girl might need. Growing up, Ameile never knew much about the struggles her father went through as he never wanted her to worry.
Upon reaching middle school, Ameile became less blind and oblivious to her single father - who by the time she was fourteen started to date at her request - and started striving in school. She earned every A she ever got and while some people might have struggled through to high school, Ameile did not. Her grades and number of extra curriculars had granted her scholarships to all the best colleges she applied to.
When she was eighteen, Ameile enrolled in Claflin University in their pre-law program. She had the next eight years mapped out and was ready to leave home, returning only for holidays and summer break. Things were going to plan up until her third year, when her father’s health took a turn.
Andrew, who had remarried over the years to Angelica, had been diagnosed with lung cancer. And though he urged his first born to not worry about him and wanted her to continue with her plan, Ameile dropped out and moved back home to Mapleview. Back in her childhood bedroom, her half-sister April in the room across the hall.
Upon coming back, Ameile started working at fresh flower shop where she has been a florist ever since.
While her father’s health hasn’t gotten worse, it hasn’t gotten better either and she is too scared to leave to go back to school. She wants to be home if anything were going to happen. She knows she doesn’t have to look after him and despite the classic fairytale story, her step mother is actually the mom she dreamed of having when she was younger. She likes taking care of April when Angelica and Andrew are at doctors appointments.

“oh yeah.” romeo muses, “the ukulele isn’t that hard. i once had a friend who adored it and he taught a few strings on it. i’m more of a guitar guy, i love the attention it brings when one is in my hand. are you trying to learn an instrument? because if so, i suggest the drums.”
“HM, I thought about guitar but figured maybe it might be easier to start with something smaller and then go from there?” Surely there were differences between a guitar and a ukulele but she had to start some where. “I’m not sure I’m a drum kind of gal. Unless you’re offering lessons,” Ameile laughed.
“Oh, Corpse Bride is the best… one of my all time favorite movies”, he excitedly shared, only pausing his excitement a little so he could answer the question in a calmer tone. “Well… yeah, that’d be awkward as hell. Worse if it’s my father though”, he paused again, realizing he was probably oversharing but shrugging it off. “But is your brother equally was bad? I know their friends like me, even though she yucks whenever they mention that to her”
THEY smiled back, shrugging her shoulders. “I don’t think that’s how your sister is looking at it, though,” she replied, looking back at him. “I know if it were my sister, she wouldn’t even acknowledge me being in the same room.” She didn’t have an older sibling so she couldn’t say she knew how it would feel but her dad had married one of her old teachers. “Maybe she thinks you’ll just constantly be trying to look over and protect her.”
“Ohhh fuck!”, waking up with a headache from hell, Jay slowly sat up on the couch he had been sleeping on, accidentally kicking over an empty beer bottle on the floor. Judging by the state of the room he was in, it had been one hell of a party last night, the only problem was that he couldn’t really remember much of it. Pushing himself off the couch, Jay grabbed his phone, which was luckily still in the pocket of his jeans, and walked towards the front door. When he stepped on the front lawn though, needing to blink a few times because of the bright light, it didn’t take him long to realise that his phones battery had died. Taking a look around, he noticed someone on the sidewalk, not too far away from him. “Hey, sorry! You don’t happen to know what time it is, do you..?”, he asked with a frown.

THOUGH Ameile didn’t have to work today, she still found herself up relatively early. Perhaps it was that use of being on a schedule and their internal clock didn’t want to let her be asleep until mid afternoon. Either way, she found herself using the time to go for a morning jog around the block a couple times. It seemed like a good way of wasting the time before the rest of the world was awake. She had been coming to a stop when she heard a voice call out, asking for the time. “Uh? Oh, yeah - gimme a second,” she responded, slightly out of breath before pulling out her phone from the pocket on the side of her leg. “It is currently, 10:30.”
AMEILE moved through the store, eying the guitars hanging on the walls. There was something about music that always gave her some kind of longing feeling - one she had always suppressed the urge to indulge until now. She was a college drop out with no plan of going back any time soon. And working at the florist shop wasn’t exactly unfulfilling but she wanted to do more. Ameile hated the feeling of being lost, but for once, she thought - just once - she would do something for herself and not what people expected or wanted from her. Reaching up, she picked a teal ukulele off the wall and turned to her right. “Do you think this would be too hard to learn? I mean, it’s probably easier than trying to learn the guitar, right?”

LOCATION: main street, the mixing bar
TIME: early evening
AVAILABILITY: open, @mapleviewstarters
NURSING A GLASS OF WHISKEY, RICKY KEPT TO HIMSELF for the better part of an hour. winding down after a long day of grease stains & customers who thought they knew best ( both drug related & not ). the way he was closed off from the rest of the drunken crowd more or less intentional when he cracked his neck, rolled his knuckles –– eventually downing the rest of his drink before he left a bill beneath it, enough to pay for the liquor & tip. he then stood from his bar stool, hitching his jacket off the counter. though in the midst of putting it on, he accidentally nudged his elbow against another’s, a domino effect that inevitably resulted in beer spilling on his hand & sleeve.
THERE was something Ameile appreciated about being home and that was never having to worry about having to go far to enjoy herself. Though the downfall was that there was hardly anything to do on the weekends. Or at least that’s what she told herself while she ordered her third beer of the night and waited for it to be poured. Once she had exchanged the cash for the glass, Ameile lifted the overfilled pint and went to turn around when she felt the slightest nudge. The next thing she knew, half her beer was gone, majority of it spilling on her arm and a decent amount starting to soak through her black converse shoes. “Shit,” she exclaimed, looking up at the culprit of the incident.
“no no what i’m saying is i figured out what spray paint is in french only because i almost got arrested for graffitiing the eiffel tower once.” mel laughed, taking a bite of her fry before continuing. “this guy i met while i was staying in france loosely asked me out, and i said yes. he told me to meet him at the eiffel tower and i did…only to find that he was spray painting a section of one of the legs. all of a sudden sirens started blaring and when i tell you i’ve never run faster in my life i mean it. the last thing i wanted on that trip was to get arrested in france.” she snorted softly, shaking her head. “needless to say i swore off french guys after that, i’m just going to stick with folks who i can understand when they ask me out with a possible felony.”
SHE sat across the table, hanging onto every word Melody had to say while Ameile just sipped on her chocolate milkshake. Damn, she wished she had crazy stories to tell from her years away from Mapleview but all she had was studying night and day and spending the better part of her freshmen year pledging a sorority that she didn’t even care about being apart of. “I can’t believe you almost got arrested. How did you manage to talk your way out of that?”
open starter @mapleviewstarters || location: the pastry place.
BEING THIS NEW TO TOWN, Daniel was still discovering all about the places around. But one of his absolute favorite stops was The Pastry Place, located just down his street. As he tried to decide between some chocolate cupcakes or a mini pie for his little sister, a thought crossed his mind too: one he felt was necessary to express out loud. “Okay, but seriously… is it really that bad to have your older brother as your teacher? I swear my sister almost hides under the table every time she has to take my art class”, he laughed a little, shaking his head as he threw the question in the air for the person beside him to answer. “I mean, if I was her age and I saw my older brother walk into the classroom in a perfect Victor Van Dort cosplay for Halloween, I’d just think he was the coolest guy ever”
AMEILE tucked a few strands of hair that had fallen from the messy mop like bun that sat on top her head before she looked towards the direction from which the question came. She had been caught up in eying the selection and was just as confused on what to order when as she was when she walked in. “I mean, if I’m being honest with you - she might have a point. I mean, don’t get me wrong. I love Corpse Bride.” Though she couldn’t help but laugh softly before continuing on. “I don’t think it was about what you were wearing. Think of it this way - what would you have done if one of your parents was your teacher?”
