For the smell of it

You know someone means a lot to you when their mood easily affects yours.

Sacrificing who we are for the sake of what others think just isn’t worth it.

Some friends don’t understand this. They don’t understand how desperate I am to have someone say, I love you and I support you just the way you are because you’re wonderful just the way you are. They don’t understand that I can’t remember anyone ever saying that to me. I am so demanding and difficult for my friends because I want to crumble and fall apart before them so that they will love me even though I am no fun, lying in bed, crying all the time, not moving. Depression is all about if you loved me you would.

You have always been like this: too busy berating yourself over the presumption that you are not – and probably never will be – good enough for anyone. You never even once stopped to wonder if they’d be any better for you too.

May 2017 be the year you stop standing in the doorway, and actually find the courage to take steps across the threshold into the happiness you so rightfully deserve to exist in. to live in. all the time, not some of the time. all the time.

One of the risks of being quiet is that the other people can fill your silence with their own interpretation: You’re bored. You’re depressed. You’re shy. You’re stuck up. You’re judgmental. When others can’t read us, they write their own story—not always one we choose or that’s true to who we are.

When you think you’ve had enough, don’t ever give up.

I think, ultimately, it’s a kind of form of abuse or harassment to go back to someone again and again and again and say, ‘Has anything changed? Can we be in a relationship now?’ If someone has told you that they don’t want to be in a relationship, you have to honor that. And if you are having trouble honoring that, that means that you are having a problem that you need to seek out help for, and you need to make sure that you do not push that relationship on that person because I think it can become very scary and kind of dangerous.
