Colts are out

“A City and its love Affair in the 1950s” is an 2008 article written by Michael Olesker. This article targets NFL fans and people who are interested in this topic. This article is about how the Balitmore Colts left Balitmore and how the city almost felt like it was an affair going on. It talks about how people were affected by it and how it really made people hate the Colts. Each chapter goes through a story on how it affected people and what was going on during this time period.

The next article is called “From Colts to Ravens”. The first article uses this article by using facts and even more stories on the Colts leaving. This article interested me because it showed the cause and effect of the Colts leaving and what happened after the Colts left. I found this article from the Google Scholar; it is about how the Colts became the Ravens and how the process went. 

Both these articles have a lot in common and both talk about how the team leaving affected people’s lives. Each article dives into people’s stories and how betrayed they felt. These articles relate to my research question because it shows how fans reacted to them leaving and that was my main question.

My opinion on this team discussion was pretty biased. As I stated before, I could not imagine my team leaving with no notice. I grew up my entire life watching The Eagles and some of my earliest memories are watching the games with my dad. I used to have posters on my wall of my favorite players and looked up to every single one of them. Thankfully this never happened to me, but I somewhat understand because my youth team I played on for years left the league and now they play teams i've never heard of. With this happening to me, I somewhat feel for the fans of Baltimore. With adults who have been watching them for years, to kids who were barely old enough to watch, it was unfair. With my opinion leaning more to the side of the fans, there also is another side. With the organization saying the fans were not good is just not true. The stadium problem would be hard though. With players careers on the line, poor fields and lockers rooms could ruin people. One thing I have to say to this was back when the Eagles played at Veterans Stadium, the stadium was horrible. The field was falling apart, there were rats everywhere, and even homeless people living in the stadium. These problems were bad, but the Eagles never left and have been in Philadelphia since 1933

When the public woke up with their team in another state, people were asking how they did this. With a few large trucks, the Colts organization moved everything to Indianapolis. The picture below shows the Mayflower trucks they used to move everything.

The news article I used for this assignment was “How did the Colts leave Baltimore?”. This article is about how the Colts left and how they did it without the public finding out. Most people are biased about why the Colts left and many were not happy.

The article is written by Shelley Timmel. Timmel is a sportswriter for all sports and mostly writes for the Sports Net. The Sports Net targets people who have a question about sports and people who just want to learn. The categories the Sports Net covers are sports, life, and business. The article I read was published on September 8th, 2021.

Reading through the article, it’s uncertain that the author is bias or not. The event that happened really is up to you to decide whether it is or not. This is the first and most likely last time this event will happen, so it really is up in the air on how you feel about it.

The NFL really let this go and not many people understand why. A city lost their football team without even knowing. The fans of Baltimore did not have a team for many years and many fans still dislike the Colts.

The topic I am researching is the 1984 Baltimore Colts. I am going to be talking about how the Baltimore Colts left Baltimore and began a new season in a new city. The Balitmore Colts were an NFL football team that was founded in 1957. The Colts won Super Bowl five and were a good team throughout their time in Baltimore. On the morning of March 29, 1984, the Colts fans woke up to their hometown team in another state. 

The Colts organization decided to keep the team leaving a secret and this move shocked the people of Baltimore. The Colts loaded up trucks with their equipment and left quietly in the middle of the night. By 10am on March 29th, the Colts were completely out of Baltimore. Many people were left without answers on why the team left. According to the Big Blue View post, they said that their “stadium was terrible and that their fans did not make the team feel welcomed”. The Colts' new hometown was Indianapolis, and the people were ecstatic. The city of Baltimore did not get another football team until 1996.

 I decided to do this story for my research because I am a huge fan of the NFL and this story stuck out to me because it was such a shock to the people of Baltimore. My blog post will be a little different than other ones on the web. I will get into how Baltimore reacted and how the people of Indianapolis reacted to their new team. Many factors went into why and how the Colts kept it a secret and many questions were not answered. I feel that my research is interesting because the story has so many unanswered questions. The other reason why it is interesting is that they kept it a secret. Telling the public would have been a good idea and does not really make sense why they did not.
