Okay I have to say this.
For reference: I am a queer trans man getting a degree in queer studies :)
if you agree with that tumblr post, you are NOT a real lgbt+ ally and you need to be educated.
Straight men are allowed to be feminine. Straight men are allowed to wear dresses and skirts and makeup and paint their nails.
They can do all of those things and still be straight. A man being feminine doesn’t make him gay, just like a woman being masculine doesn’t make her a lesbian.
If you want to be an actual lgbt+ ally, know that men can be feminine and still be cishet. Saying that someone “has to be gay” because they’re feminine is femmephobic and homophobic :) I can’t believe I have to say this, but Darren is NOT appropriating queer culture ?? He’s wearing an outfit that he thinks looks good. So what if it’s a feminine outfit. Kurt Hummel himself is the one who said fashion has no gender.
Educate yourself and stop speaking for us queer folks. I don’t dare what you believe, but let men be feminine without forcing homophobic stereotypes onto them.
Darren has always been feminine so I don’t buy your “he’s doing this for money” bullshit either.
I’m an Ann Arbor native. I go to school here. My sister knew Darren when he lived here. He has always been very feminine. Nothing about him has changed. Please educate yourselves.
I support @cc-fanfictionada. And while I am sure there are members of the lgbt community that support your statement, I’m a member of the lgbt community as well and have a problem with Darren’s image. I specifically have a problem when he said “he wants the benefits of being gay without the responsibility”.
This fits in with this statement. I’m sorry but I didn’t spend 4 years in high school getting punched, thrown into lockers, spit on, and called every vile name in the book so some “straight” guy can have his cake and eat it too.
Right now he reeks of inauthenticity to me and others. He’s changed since Glee ended. I can’t tell if he’s being honest whenever he speaks. I applaud those that can.
And while I’m sure there are straight men that are feminine and dress the way they feel comfortable the real question for Darren is.. is that his excuse or is there something to do with his sexual identity? And unless you have direct evidence that he has never had any desire or experience sexually being with a person of the same gender that question will always be on the table based on prior statements and action. Like it or not thats what comes with being a celebrity.
Meanwhile out gay actors are having roles taken by actors in the closet. There was a whole Hollywood round table discussion about this topic.
As far as being a fan of Darrens, you are correct. I used to be a fan of Darren’s. I would like to be a fan again. He’s making it really difficult not just for me but others as well.
My opinion( and a few others) only.
Thanks for reblogging @crissvoncolfer someone told me there was a post about me I couldn't see. I don't want to play the queer card but you played the queer studies one, so here I am - I'm queer. That post isn't about MEN wearing dresses, that post is how *I* feel about *Darren* wearing a (not even, it's a suit) dress for clout (and he is, he totally tried to hijack Kid Cudi's idea with that tweet, PR 101) just as an addition to the various *in my opinion* problematic things he's done in the ten years I've been following him. I'm happy you can report he was feminine all along and ever since childhood, it's not what other people who knew him back then refer about him as a first thing - and also not how he purports himself all the time. However here below a more authoritative opinion than mine on what is problematic about straight people in feminine dresses. (Before you say anything else I have a transgender son). LINK
I’m also transgender lmao. If you want to dislike Darren for something so simple then be my guest. He has not been getting queer benefits while remaining straight. Once again, you’re going off of old and damaging heteronormative stereotypes. He’s no longer playing any gay roles. He is a very vocal ally. Mia is bisexual. Many of Darren’s friends are queer. Of course he’s going to be active in the community.
