My Chemical Romance's instant classic album "The Black Parade" turns 10 on 10/24/2016. In celebration of the milestone, we bring you "Famous Last Words" a tribute zine to said album, a collection of original art and essays by an group of international creators, with a foreword written by up and coming comics creator Tini Howard (Young Animals/DC Comics, BOOM! Studios, Black Mask). This 40 page digital collection will be available for a year on Gumroad, and available for pay what you want. We suggest a minimum of $3, so that we can pay our contributors, and any outstanding funds going directly to Music Unites ( http://www.musicunites.org/). Once purchased, you'll have access to individual files containing the of this magazine, as well as a master file that will allow you to print your own copy of the zine if your prefer a physical copy that's easy to assemble. A Famous Last Word Preview: Chris Vs The Black Parade
As Iāve mentioned several times, Iām co-editing and writing a piece for the MCR tribute zine (@blackparadezine)Ā āFamous Last Wordsā. With today seeing the release of the Black Parade tenth anniversary album, I decided to give yāall a sneak peak of the zine, but releasing my a part of my piece here. Details about the zineās release date and pricing should be going live soon, but for now, enjoy this essay.
And when Way repeats said verse again, thatās when SHIT gets real. Itās harsher and louder, but itās also still foreplay, because once that drum/guitar kicks off, THATāS when the song hits hardest, for me at least. āTHE BOY IS NOT SINGING FOR A MINUTE, BUT HIS HANDSOME FRIENDS ARE ROCKING OUT, YES THIS IS GOOD, CONTINUE PLEASE THE BOY!ā
āSometimes I get the feeling sheās watching over me, and other times I feel like I should goā. That reads like the Jeopardy answer to āSongs that currently define my love lifeā. Which ultimately is why The Black Parade is the fucking jam. You can come at this song at so many angles, and despite it being a concept album about death, can walk away taking so much from it. To me itās also served as a reminder of second chances, a stark opposite of Rise Againstās quasi-nihilistic song āRe-Education (Through Labor)ā.āAnd though youāre dead and gone believe me, Your memory will carry on, Weāll carry onā Again, up to all sorts on interpretations, but more importantly, about the time when the melody has you at a comfortable level. The initial rush of adrenaline has probably worn off, we get a few repetitions of the chorus, but youāre still having fun. Then, MCR hit you with this:
Do or die, youāll never make me
Because the world will never take my heart
Go and try, youāll never break me
We want it all, we wanna play this part
This, mother fuckers, is when the song stops being a song and starts being a call to arms. Thereās a good chance you were just mouthing the lyrics as you read them, which if so, no shame there. Again, this is the fucking jam, and we all know what comes next right?

Iām unashamed, Iām gonna show my scars
Give a cheer for all the broken

This is everything. Anti-establishment, iconic, a personal statement, a war cry, whatever you fucking want it to be. Itās like there was a lab (or a marketing meeting for a bunch of Hot Topic executives) where the finest music scientists, which Iām sure are a thing, came together to create a song so pure, yet so fucking inspiring, you canāt help but to toss a fist in the air and sing/scream/openly weep along. The song ends at its most Queenish, a compliment that Iām not the first to make, but is obviously the best way to describe it. Ā Itās the anthem, throw all your hand-wait, thatās a different and terrible band. ((Sorry Beth!))

Hey, itās Ashley and Chris! Weāve finally went through the submissions and reached out to the people who really struck a chord (no pun intended) with us for Famous Last Words. Since weāve been kind of bad with deadlines and such, letās cut to the chase and list the contributors for this thing!
@sharpestrose, aka Mary Borsellino, is a writer living in Melbourne, Australia. Her favourite MyChem era is The Black Parade. She's interviewed Gerard Way about his comics a bunch of times, which you can read via her site at http://maryborsellino.com.
Lowell Greenblatt (or @livingdeadpan if we were on the twitter machine) would like to apologize for half of his DVD collection and 1/3 of his Blu-rays. He lives in Queens and waxes philosophical about the nichest of niches while enjoying the Teaches Of Peaches. His next mission will be finding out who poured hummus in the vending machine.
@mapurl is an animator/illustrator/programmer/knitter (only one of those things is her actual job) who probably should not be drawing right now. She is addicted to trashy entertainment, coffee and not sleeping. mapurl has been listening to the same terrible playlist (which includes MCR, of course) for the past decade, and has no intention of changing that anytime soon.
Bee Sigler (also known as Riot, @poiisons, and "that nerd over there") is a long-time My Chemical Romance fan who sometimes makes art. Their favorite songs off The Black Parade are "House of Wolves" and "Mama."

Catarina Teixeira, A.K.A. "SkreeBat", was born in Lisbon, Portugal, in 1993, Catarina, or SkreeBat as she's known online, has been drawing ever since she was young, taking a High School Diploma in Communication Design, and a Bachelor's Degree in Painting, she continues to dive into illustration, and is aiming for the world of comics. While she didn't follow My Chemical Romance when they were active, she first started getting into their sound and visuals sometime in 2014, when one of her friends first showed her Gerard's work in comics - namely, The True Lives Of The Fabulous Killjoys. Since then, she's found great inspiration in all of their different works as a band, finding, in The Black Parade, her interest in dark, macabre visuals paired with an ultimately hopeful message.
Eleonor is a Portuguese artist with a passion for illustration, character design and concept art. She loves video games, movies, books, music, drawing, chocolate croissants, cats & dogs, mountains, common sense and pizza. My Chemical Romance is one of her favourite bands of their genre and she'll forever regret that she never got to see them live!
Michelle Mork is an illustrator and comic artist who loves drawing ghosts and ghouls. You should have killed her when you had the chance.
