Sanji, but the poison that Sora took affected him in more ways than just stopping the mutations. Sanji but the poison that Sora took also poisoned his blood and made him chronically/terminally ill (you take your pick). This au would be Traf!Sanji with Law eventually trying and either failing or succeeding to remove the poison depending on how much angst that you want. And Sanji/Marco for the ship.

Hey, this is atrocious and I love it. Y'all have been ANGSTY. (yes i'm still working on the all other asks i promise.) Also i fucking love this ship. This is long.

So Sanji is born the weakling, the failure. Then it comes to light slowly that the poison Sora drank affected her son. She feels tremendous guilt but so much relief he's human. She holds him close as he grows, until she dies. Then he too, is also declared dead.

Sanji should probably be medicated, and should have been likely. But he isn't, he wasn't. He gets worse during his time in the dungeon, in the helmet. His lungs burn for oxygen during his coughing fits. Then Reiju gets him out as Germa is getting ready to leave for the East Blue. Some wasted island. Wishing him well before going back. Sanji watches his sister leave for the last time before he tries to make his way around with the helmet still weighing heavily on him.

Then he finds a spotted teenager. They stare at each other until Sanji starts hacking his lungs up again and that makes the teen run to him. Steady him. Then the mask is gone. Just disappears off Sanji's head. Sanji blinks up at teen when his coughing subsides. They don't talk, the guy just grabs his hand and starts pulling him along.

His name is Trafalgar D. Water Law and he's not letting Sanji out of his sight because of his illness. Sanji goes along with it because he's a lot nicer than his brothers or the scientists. They gather others in their travels, becoming a proper crew of pirates. Law keeps a close eye on Sanji's health, everyone teases them they're like brothers. They agree they are after a while.

Then a storm tears the ship apart. Sanji is whisked away to the East by a storm destroying their ship, being rescued by a cruise liner. Then stranded again thanks to another storm. Sanji has a new fear unlocked. Storms. Zeff is dealing with this kid to the best of his abilities.

Especially when the kid starts coughing specks of blood up. The doctor running batteries of tests and prescribing medications to help, and they do. Sanji's lungs don't burn, his joints don't really ache. He'll be okay. He's going to keep living with a man who shares his dream, cares like Law did. So he lives, sets off with a man who reminds him of the sun, three months of medication packed with him. He doesn't know Law's alive. Law thinks his brother is long dead.

Things happen as canon does. He breaks his back on Drum, fucks around with Crocodile. He's absolutely still smoking and Robin finds it delightfully morbid when Sanji shrugs off his illness while smoking. Chopper is making his medicine now and it does work better than his others. Which is nice. It's still like eight pills in the morning and five at night but y'know. He's alive and kicking marines through walls. He's fine.

On Sabaody he gets to see his brother, hear his voice. Find out he's alive and then brutally separated from his crew. Landing on an island without his medications, without his crew. It's all so fucking pink he doesn't know what to do. So he tries to make it back.

Law meanwhile is at Marineford, watching his little brother's captain run off with the Pirate King's son while the White Beard pirates fight. Shanks even shows up, ending the war as the brothers escape. Law has only just found his brother is alive, now he's mourning him all over again. As the CMO and the brothers make it so they can be treated after being grazed fucking magma. Law wants to ask about his little brother, if he has medication, if he's safe, as healthy as his brother could be.

Marco takes Ace back to the Moby Dick. Law drops Luffy off with Rayleigh and Jimbe. He goes to his room and rocks back and forth on his bed for being unable to save his brother again. Ace is telling Marco in a drugged haze all about the blond on Luffy's crew. Izou can't help but giggle about it. Teases Marco the man sounds right up his alley. Marco doesn't have time to day dream about such things. Never really did, never will now. Then the fleet disbands, and then he's taking Ace to Strawhats, to meet them. To meet Luffy officially.

There's a blond man smoking on deck, yelling at Ace as they board the ship while a little tanuki thing runs up screaming.

"SANJI! WHAT THE HELL DID YOU TAKE?" It seems pissed off but the man, Sanji, the one Ace fawned over, laughs.

"No fucking clue, but it worked while I was training." Sanji answers, patting the tanuki's hat. "Not as well as the medicine you make me though."

"SHUT UP THAT DOESN'T MAKE ME HAPPY!" But it's wiggling with happiness before looking at the newcomers. Then Ace introduces them all. Sanji sneaks off to cook dinner for everyone and Marco, needing a break from the noise, wanders in later. Catching the cook in the act of taking his evening medications, a small hand full he washes down with a swig of water. While making a fried rice in a wok that should probably be tossed with two hands but he's only using one. Chopper, the reindeer had asked him a lot of questions. It makes a bit more sense as Marco slides up.

"You ever try phoenix fire for it?" Marco grins lazily, because he gets what Ace meant now.

"I don't think it would work." Sanji replies easily as he puts the bottles in a cabinet with even more pill bottles. "Genetics. And if you're going to stay in here I'm going to put you to work."

"Ace said you didn't make him work." Marco chuckles.

"You're job," Sanji looks at him with a serious face, "is to make sure that bastard doesn't break the door down." Marco bursts out laughing, agreeing easily. They get along great. Sanji is hot too. Damn Izou had him cornered and he never even saw him. The two of them get on like a house fire, Robin finds it endlessly amusing. The chronically ill and a phoenix. Ace is kind of mad Marco gets to spend all the time with Sanji. Bastard.

Marco even helps with dishes after dinner after insisting and fighting Sanji about it for a good twenty minutes. Ace wants to punch him, Nami is gathering beri for a betting pool. Breakfast in the morning is quieter, Luffy's still not back yet and Marco sees Sanji take another handful of pills. It doesn't sit right with the CMO for some reason. So he helps Chopper with the medications after breakfast, answering all his questions. It's almost as if the guy has been poisoned. Marco promises to bring more journals the next time they meet.

Sanji has him entranced in a way no one else has. Marco does want to try his fire on him one day. He leaves with the cook's number. They call a few times. Marco flirts heavily and Sanji always stutters.

On Punk Hazard Sanji sees his brother again, then he's in Nami's body, his getting crushed by a building. Nami coughs up some blood in his while he apologizes to her. Sure the entire crew knows he's sick, flare ups happen. She looks genuinely shocked at him, then Law does later too. After Sanji breaks his leg on Vergo and has to help the kids. Luffy accepts the alliance with ease and is excited.

Law steals away with his little brother in the galley, glad to have each other again. Sanji catches him up on his health and Law does his own scans for his peace of mind. They share cigarettes. Zoro and Ace are very unamused. Law finds their jealousy fantastically entertaining. Robin is giggling.

Then Dressrosa happens, then Whole Cake. When the rescue team lands in Wano the entire Heart crew lets out a breath. Sanji lets his own out

seeing his brother alive. They have a quiet talk in private again, Sanji leans his head on Law's shoulder and Law wraps a tattooed arm around him.

They're alive, even if Sanji's joints ache to the point he shouldn't be moving because he might collapse. Law helps him back to camp. He tells Sanji he needs adaptable equipment. Sanji flips him off because he has plenty for the galley. Law rolls his eyes. Little brothers are certainly annoying. They trade hearts for a bit. To keep each other calm and remind themselves they're both alive.

Marco shows up for the raid, see his brothers, kick some ass. Sanji's ass in that red suit is diabolical for his health. Ace nods. Law rolls his eyes. Sanji is oblivious to what he is doing to the people around him. Then after the raid, Marco catches Sanji alone in a room, lying while staring at the ceiling.

"You look like shit." Marco says lazily as he goes and stands over the younger who glares half heartedly at him. Marco's brow creases in worry with the groan Sanji gives when he sits up. Marco kneels down to examine him despite Sanji trying to wave him off. "I helped Chopper with your medications."

Sanji glares at him, though he looks exhausted, there's not a lot of visible damage that the former CMO sees, Marco still starts to look worried at him. Sanji blinks at him, confused at how Marco is acting.

"Seas, I knew you'd been poisoned but I never thought it was this bad." Marco grumbles.

"It's always worse when it's in utero." Sanji responds making Marco stare at him in horror. "My mom wanted to ensure one of us kids were human, poison took her when I was six."

"Okay, we're trying the fire today, then I will work with Chopper about your medications again." Marco grumbles as he sets his fire low onto the strawhat cook. Marco gets a bit more from the cook before the man falls asleep again. Marco joining him after a while. Law looks in later, sees them sleeping, and backs out.

The Heart Pirates talk about how much Marco's organs could be worth when he relays what he saw. Law doesn't get a chance to give Marco a shovel talk as he flies off after spending more time with his little brother than he would like. Sanji avoids him as well, especially after they share a kiss when Marco's leaving for a ride. When Law corners his baby brother about it the news he's dating the older man makes Law blink at him.

"His fire made me wake up pain free." Sanji tries.

"I'm taking his liver." Law bites. Sanji tries wrestling his brother to make him not do that. It's not clear who wins or loses the fight. That's when the rest of them learn Sanji is dating Marco. Ace, Zoro, and Luffy band together to try to figure out how to break them up. Robin and Nami find it amusing while Franky gives Sanji a pat on the back and a thumbs up for landing a guy like Marco. The alliance ends, they all set off. Law is routinely calling his little brother. Sanji slams his head into the counter.

A few months later they're all meeting up, Law and the Hearts, Strawhats and Ace, at Marco's island. Some get together at Pops' hometown or something. Law doesn't know or care, all he wants is to give Marco a shovel talk and take one of his organs as trade for dating his baby brother. Maybe Law is a little too close to his baby brother, maybe he's running his own scans too. Maybe Sanji stares a little too dead eyed at him.

"Why is Law trying to hang off you?" Marco asks his boyfriend at some point while watching Luffy yell at Law before Zoro gets involved.

"He's my older brother, found me after I first got out." Sanji sighs, rubbing his face in exasperation. It makes everyone stop and look. Save for Law who throws the rubber man down to the ground.

"He's what?" Nami demands, pointing at Law. Marco just stares in confusion at his boyfriend as Nami's voice echoes.

"You guys didn't know?" Penguin asks.

"Oh this'll be fun!" Shachi cheers.

"Do not take my boyfriend's liver." Sanji snaps at Law.

"This rate it'll be his heart." Law snaps back.

"You know what. I'm glad he's dating you." Ace pats Marco's shoulder before walking away. Marco blinks after the guy a retort on his lips before deciding to not make things worse for himself.

It's later, when Sanji has slipped away for his medication that Law finds Marco. The doctors staring at each other as if daring the other to start a war.

"I've thought him dead twice now," Law starts making Marco's brow furrow in confusion, "I'm trusting that, like his captain, you'll go searching for him as well." Kikoku is resting on Law's shoulder, both his tattooed hands holding the handle tightly.

"Yeah, I will." Marco nods. "We've both done enough mourning." For so many others, he doesn't say.

"The fire worked though, kept him pain free. Haven't seen him cough up blood since I first got him so you're all at least taking care of him."

"He coughs up blood?" Marco asks with worry.

"Sometimes." Law shrugs with a grin. "North Blue ain't kind to its children. I got Amber Lead poisoning myself." Marco balks as Law saunters off, going to his crew before Marco can demand answers.

When Sanji returns Marco loops an arm around his shoulders and pulls him close, the younger leaning into his hold. Marco keeps a hold of Sanji, takes his weight when his knees start hurting more than they should. Law nods in approval later when Marco is carrying a sleeping Sanji away from the party. Marco will take the approval with a small smile as he takes the cook to bed.
