Hola! I'm the aspiring author otherwise known as Aka! I might be rusty when it comes to tumblr but I have a decade of writing experience otherwise!
This blog is dedicated to the two protagonists of the trilogy, Mako and Danica. A former warden with a knack for surviving impossible odds and a veilweaving prodigy!

Edward looked at his challenger, looking her up and down. “Two things, not much of a duelist, and I really don’t fight fair. You sure you want to do this?”
“Fair. Unfair.” Mako shrugged as she stretched her legs out and grinned at him. “Don’t matter much. You’ve already locked down height and definitely weight advantage.”
“I also have the range and firepower advantage.” He said as a flame manifested in his hand. “I’m a mage. Also injured. I can hit things. I’m not good at it though.” He said. “Honestly, I mean this nicely, I don’t want to hurl fireballs at you. That would be…. Rude of me.”
As she stood up from her stretching, she produced a silvery hilt of a sword with no blade. “We could test whose anti-magic is stronger if you wanted. But a fight to the death ain’t a vibe.”
"Oh, that would be bad. Because my anti-magic... Its not gentle." He said as the flame burnt out for an instant before switching to blue. "It undoes magic explosively so I'm not exploding you, or me, or my yard. It may or may not be superior, but... It goes kaboom better. And I'd rather not."
“I do tend to agree that bein’ unexploded is the preferred state of bein’.” Mako nodded as she twirled the hilt. “Besides, water does tend to explode less than fire.”
"Yes, I do know that. Though, water can functionally explode. I've done that too. Its terrifying." He said. "Like I said, I don't fight fair, because, well, fighting fair is for losers. And I'm not a loser." He chuckled.
“Says the guy who loses if he does anythin’ short of blowin’ us both up.” Mako teased with the cocky grin. “Besides though, who says we can’t’ve a more friendly challenge to it?”
"Who said I would blow up?" He asked. "I'd blow up the environment and you. I'm neither of those things." He had the smuggest grin on his face. "If we both blow up its harder for me to win."
"That being said I am open to alternate competitions. Though... I'd prefer something we both are decently skilled at... And I don't know what we share in common that won't... Do a lotta damage."
Mako nodded, conceding the point. “Yeah, if I can’t beat you with magic, we can be sure that you couldn’t beat me physically.”
She tapped the hilt of her weapon on her chin in thought. What were they both good at that would make for fair competition?

Lore Drop!
You'd be amazed by the amount of lore rattling around the ole brain pan, but most recently what's haunted me is if the moon is flat.
You see, on Nyrrath, Noctyra forms the moon of her own being for most of the year. This is how the old leylines are filled with aether and produce the phenomenon known as the Veil which is visually like an aurora borealis that expands out from the moon.
Now, the reason I wonder if the moon is flat is because it doesn't need to be a physical object with mass. Not when all the natural cycles that our moon effect are handled by the other gods.
Like the tide for instance is something that happens because of the God of Ocean and his love for Noctyra causing it to chase after the moon.
So, I don't know if it will fully develop into flat moon on the skybox, but it is what's currently lingering with me.

Mae's duties as a professor, researcher and educator included community responsibilities. Though not her main focus, the mysterious magical highway was always at the fringe of every person who studied magic seriously. To that end her school ran open invitations to people tossed aside by the Highway. If only to understand other realities schools of 'magic' as it were. But also to offer emotional support and perhaps, if they were willing, a job expanding the colleges knowledge. With that she had one miss Danica on the meeting today. "Hello Danica." Mae said as she opened the door to the meeting room. "Come on in, lets talk. We've prepared some light food and drink. But I'm Mae Lyons, and I am thrilled to meet you." She said offering a hand.
"Fascinating. But to imagine you can do so much magic!" She hummed. "Oh! I wonder how you'd interact with our various artifacts and tomes." She said after a moment. "In fact... How on earth do you learn new stuff? Is it experimentation? Written instruction? Communion with deities? I'm really curious if its the last one. I wanted to commune with a god sometime."
"There are different philosophies to learning new disciplines," answered the veilweaver. "Each known discipline has their own starting point, a way that allows one to connect with their desired material for most."
"For instance, when I learned Terromancy, which controls earth, stone and other natural material of the like, I was taught that one has to connect with the land itself. Meditation first, and then you..."
She trails off for a moment, attempting to figure out the best metaphor for it. "Think of it as like pulses through the material, and which each pulse you can reshape it."
"After that, one has to learns their own methods for further attunement. Most practice some form art with it, whether its pottery for the softer matter or sculptures for the hard stones."
"Hmm. Edward never said he had something like that... Well. Mmm... Kinda? God. I wish I could do stupid magic." She sighed and leaned back in her chair in frustration.
There was a moment. "Oh! Uh, not that I think your magic is stupid, its just... Ya know, I can't. Just regular old woman here. Nothing much magical about me. Aside from the ability to share knowledge ya know?"
Danica waved off any imagined offence with a smile. “Honestly, if I were born without Noctyra’s gifts, I would have likely done the same. There is something fascinating about powers that can influence reality that demands study.”
“Even for those without the ability to inflict their own will upon it are valued. Maybe even more so than the casters themselves due to the unique perspective provided to you.”

"So... Voidweavers are normal magical mages? And the unique part of you is your ability to master most forms of magic? Interesting." She said. "Out of curiosity, what schools have you, or would you like to learn? At least in regard to where you are now." She asked curious as she thought about the others school of knowledge.
“Veil-weaver.” Danica corrected politely. “An important distinction where I’m from. The Void being its own element of sorts.”
“As for my disciplines, I have quite the number. Pyromancy as previously mentioned. Illunomancy which is the control of light. Umbramancy the control of shadows. Necromancy which was to help a colleague’s attempt to form a healing magic out of it but that didn’t go as far as he had hoped.”
“Really the list of what I do know is quite extensive. And what I would prefer to know in future? That comes more from further mastery.”
Cult infestation investigation (Closed starter)

Edward arrived in Tess's secondhand shop. The woman with her left eye glowing red was speaking with a visitor. "Mako!" Tess said sounding slightly tired. "Here is the other independent investigator I was talking about." She said motioning for Ed to come over. "Investigator? Are you spreading rumors about me?" Ed asked. "Are they rumors if they're true. Now come and help her." Tess clearly was not in the space to deal with this right now. So Ed took over. "Hello, are you looking into that cult of... What was it Nyxth cult or whatever?" "I think it was-" Tess paused. "I'm gonna shut up, I have work to do, gotta run." She had dealt with cult members, they could be problems.
"Trust me, Edward will do just fine staying alive." She said. "What? You think Tess would steer you wrong?" Edward asked. "I'm not the GMP, but then again, the GMP are a buncha cops." He chuckled. "But, well, yes, I've been looking into them. A bunch of the summer kids have been..." He paused. "Lets get to my car, I'll explain on the way." He motioned to her and brought her outside. Once there he pushed her in the car quicker than perhaps she would have liked, but once it was closed he sighed. "So... I think somethings up. And its... Complex, but I thought I saw one of the members in the store. So I wanted to move us along, sorry." He said as he began. "The cult communicates with each other... Unusually well. They're also based out of... Here and here." He said as he presented her a printed out map. There was spot that was off an old dirt road circled in red and marked 'meeting house' plus another spot circled in purple marked 'holy cave?' question mark included. "They meet... In those two spots I believe. I think... Probably."
Mako wasn't one to move slowly when she had somewhere to be, but to be rushed made the woman bristle. Edward earned himself more than a few glares before they sat in the car.
With the explanation of one of the members being inside the store, there was the temptation for the warden to look back.
She didn't.
Instead she considered the map, and she nodded. "No, I can confirm from my own investigatin' that those are their primary locations. A few outliers elsewhere but from the few glimpses I could get up close didn't seem important."
“I’ve seen them meet around town.” He said as he started his car. “But usually it’s just two people chatting. I’ve even been approached once or twice by some cult members to join. I think they were just asking most people but still.” He shook his head.
There was a moment. “We never formally met sorry, I’m Edward Lyons. Local notable mage. Lovely to meet you.” He said offering a hand to shake. “Usually I’d have been more polite but that cult is weird so I rushed us to relative privacy quicker than normal.”
"A lot of mundane conversations." Mako agreed, having had her own covert eavesdropping on conversations. "It was actually their recruitment that made me suspicious at first. Somethin' that rubbed me wrong."
She shook her head before reaching out to shake his hand. "Mako. Haven't decided if it's lovely to meet you yet." She replied with a mischievous grin. "Nothin' makes ya forget formalities like danger."

Mako turned from the counter to appraise the so-called expert investigator that Tess had informed him about. Her eyes hidden behind heavily tinted sunglasses.
Even if she was a foot shorter than him, she had the energy of someone who'd be more than willing to fight him without hesitation. An impression not helped as she grinned.
"Yup," Mako said as she pushed off the counter. "Tess's told me that you're someone who knows a thing or two about—" she gestures vaguely around, "stuff."
"Not wrong." Edward said when Mako mentioned him knowing stuff. "I am Edward Lyons." He said offering a hand. "And based on this panicked text I got it sounds like you're one Mako, who is investigating the cult of Verix." Edward looked at his phone. "She's calling it the Church of Verix. They don't have the tax approval, they're a cult." Edward said before putting that away.
"If you don't mind, I think I've found where their base of operation is. Would you perhaps like to join me on a mission to scout it out?" He hadn't quite discerned Mako's desire to fight Edward. If he had, he might have reconsidered this offer. For now though, he would happily take her along, and learn to regret it later, perhaps.
Perhaps he'd merely learn nothing.
There was a certain level of distrust the woman displayed at the phone, but she didn't make a move on it.
"Oh, don't worry none about that, Eds." Mako said as she stood up, patting his chest in a playful reassuring manner. "Found out a lot about these cultists myself. Just best practice to have someone more magically minded when it comes to these things and you've come recommended."
Mako looked back at Tess. "Hope he pans out, Tess. Do I have to make sure he survives?"
