keith runs his hands down his suit jacket again and again, hands sweating.

he’s never been to a party before, much less one where he has to wear a suit and tie. after weeks of pestering, lance finally convinced him to go to junior prom. the only thing he refused to do, though, was ask someone to be his date (and when he was asked, he politely declined).

lance, however, is bringing a date. her name is kayla and lance says he only said yes to being her date because otherwise i’d feel bad, keith. you should’ve seen her! i couldn’t say no to that face. i mean, it doesn’t help that she’s kinda cute right? haha.

keith had just laughed and tried his best to hide the hurt, jealousy and shame that threatened to swallow him whole (he’s feeling it a little right now if he’s being honest).

he hears a door slam outside and quickly crosses his room to the window to see lance jogging across his yard to keith’s front door. he’s only seen a glimpse of him but keith can already tell tonight is going to be absolute hell.

a few seconds later he hears his front door open and close and shiro’s laugh as he says “he’s upstairs. you should see how many times he made me iron his suit tonight. i’m not sure who he’s trying to impress but the guy must be pretty special.” he mentally curses his brother and makes a mental note to put nair in his shampoo later. he hears lance laugh and then footsteps and frantically looks around for something to do. he yanks his (already tied) tie off.

adam & shiro are both teachers. all the kids love them. they’re interactive and fun & just rlly good at their jobs. imagine some scared little kid coming up to Mr. Shirogane and seeing this very tall, very intimidating man & instead of finding a scowl, they find the kindest, warmest smile wow :’) anyway, shiro & adam both have very good reputations & everyone loves them YES (they live together & are married as well)

unimportant but coran is the principal and he wears funky suits

alright, so. lance is in the top 5% of his class cus he tries the hardest (he rlly cares about his studies) he probably tutors the freshman in spanish for extra credit. his favorite teacher is shiro. (they have a secret handshake!!!). um he’s on the baseball team (with hunk)!!

keith is smart ok. he did have some trouble his first yr cus of…personal reasons but he’s got his shit together now. not many ppl have taken the time to get to know him & really, at first he didn’t mind, he was ok with being alone…until he wasn’t. but now he’s got lance & his friends & school is bearable.

So I have been sitting for about thirty minutes trying to digest the masterpiece that is we are the ants. It was funny, beautiful, heartbreaking and so real I was almost in the world with each of the characters. I couldn’t put this book down and I was rewarded with some of my new favorite quotes to come from the pages I kept turning.
