Filtering energy is fairly simple. I don't speak for everyone, but for me I close my eyes steady my breathing and visualize an energy shield around me. Afterwards I visualize lust (my energy of choice) going in while the others mixed into the complex emotional energy I don't need/that could potentially hurt me surrounding lust get blocked out of my field.

As vampiric entities, we often need to protect ourselves more because we have to fill a hungry void within where it can't store as much energy as we give out for long. For all of you who've newly awakened, be sure to remember this.
