to see a portrayal of what it’s like to grow up different, special, closeted, in a small countryside town where everyone knows each other, of what it’s like to yearn for a different environment, for a place to belong and to call a home, of what it’s like to feel like a monster and like you can’t talk to anyone around you about it, because you can’t, what it’s like to feel the weight of tradition and the knowledge that anything that gets out, everyone will know… I can’t even begin to think about writing down anything I might be feeling after this. the way this story is told with such care and pain at the same time, the amount of symbolism put into it, from the metaphors and parallels themselves down to the language that is used, the way they speak, about themselves, about each other, about the town… it’s a stunning, sobering, too-close-for-comfort show and it’s left me feeling like my chest is going to explode
