bubblegum bee.
A tiny smile touched Gondolineâs face- a private smile, one exchanged between friends who shared a secret- and she scooted discreetly forward so as to witness the little scene being acted out for her benefit. The importance of the hat having thus been explained, the girl nodded understandingly and whispered, âFreddie is a bad boy,â like it was the worst insult a girl could give. And, to Gondy, whose mother prided herself on her daughterâs upstanding moral character, it was.
It felt sort of strange for Gondoline to watch her favorite doll being played with by someone else, but she trusted this Betony- more than she could say for the other little girls who tried to play with her Jasmine doll. She was just anxious to get out of time-out so she could rejoin her new friend and continue playing. She grabbed her feet and began to rock back and forth impatiently, eyes honed in on Jasmine.
âBe-tony,â she stammered, trying to get a feel for the right way to say it, âBe- Be to- tony.â It felt wrong, no matter how she tried. Grimacing, she folded her arms across her chest and stopped rocking. âBee,â she then tried, followed by a hum of satisfaction. âYour name starts with a B. I will call you Bee. You can call me Gee, my class does at school.â
Making sure to only sit in an "acceptable" distance of the time out chair, Betony listened to the other girl's whisperings, still playing with the dolls. Glancing over, she screwed up her face a little bit. "But...that sounds too much like my name. That's confusing." Glancing quickly to see where the caretakers were, Betony hurriedly gave Jasmine a little toss towards her new friend. She wanted her to be able to play as well, despite the time out.
