Well no! Its true he was severely popular and still is but the difference is all kinds of characters were still gaining attention. You had jeff, but people still cared about ben, laughing jack, lost silver, Nurse ann, nina, etc. It wasn't JUST toby. Now the fanfic only gets popular if its toby. Only fanart of toby really matters.

He's SEVERELY mischaracterize and only liked because of his looks and the fact he's headcanoned as submissive. Whereas Jeff was popular because of his looks, AND people cared about his dynamic to en extent. He inspired so much, he was actually scary to many people, he's a literal legend and I'm not trying to glaze he genuinely did so much for the community. I love that another character is popular but he's the ONLY one the new fandom seems to care about, and not understanding his character at all...see what i mean?

Can the fandom PLEASE start caring about other characters too? Yall complain its the same few characters we're recycling, but there are HUNDREDS of characters that could be so much more interesting.

An imaginary friend who reflects the personality of his owner!?

A killer who makes art with his victims!?

A demon lord who uses magic and creates demonic spawns!?

A zombie nurse using a chainsaw!?

Like come on there are so many fucking cooler concepts. I'm not saying you cant like Toby or you can't dislike the others but he's not the only one in the fandom god damn. I do think newer oc's are cool as an oc creator myself but first let's develop our older characters too.

So, ignoring the fact that Anon only brought up the Lesser Known Generic CrP Characters we've already seen over and over again. (I mean, I'd have advocated for New/Latest CrP Characters or OCs, but I guess it's different strokes for different folks-) they really did hit the mark that Toby steals the Spotlight and has really become the Meal Ticket to notoriety in this Hellscape Fandom

Literally one of my Top Posts was a Crappy Headcanon about Ticci Toby like he guarantees the notes, likes, and reblogs if you're starved for attention.

But why is that?

Well, my theory, as someone who lurked around the Fandom since they were 12 and lived in it in the Early Days, is because now People are Free to like Toby.

Now CrP Historians and Long Time Fandom Goers could correct me but I remember in the Old Days of the Fandom it was pretty Taboo to talk about Ticci Toby because of the drama with the Creator + Villainization of Fangirls.

You Couldn't Draw Ticci Toby unless it was under Special Conditions (Only with Clockwork, No Waffle Joke, etc)

You Couldn't Write About Ticci Toby (No x Reader Fanfics or you would've been railroaded to hell)

You Couldn't Include Ticci Toby in Things (No Quotev Quizzes nor Fanfics with Him unless it was very slim to non existent presence.)

You really couldn't do anything with Toby because the Fandom wanted to respect the Creator and didn't want to be seen as "Those" Fans for including him.

Hell, it was so bad I remember the Quotev Quizzes I did at 13 ONLY included Toby if he was with Clockwork, and he was not even a result option back then. One of the Fanfics I read on Quotev that I've mentioned on my Blog actually discontinued because Toby was "not in the Fandom" anymore. That's how intense the Lock down on Toby was back then.

But now we're here in 2026 and People are Free to write about/draw/simp for Ticci Toby openly now.

So, of course, now the Fandom is saturated with him. People are playing "Catch Up" with him since they were denied him for so long.

I think what we all need to do now, however, is set the line and allow the spotlight to go to others. You don't have to overcorrect for the past anymore.

I go on quotev DAILY. Almost all boyfriend scenarios included him especiallyin 2014-2016. Clockwork was the one who had to have toby around to get attention because the insane misogyny like Nina. He was talked about a lot. I have no idea where you got those ideas...lol

Only the newer fandom actually has a problem with the waffles. Also, it was THE headcanon. Toby was really well liked thats why his removal from the fandom caused major problems. SOME, and I mean very few people actually really 'respected' that. He's always still being included because he's such a core character. If he was taboo his removal wouldnt bother anyone really.

Firstly reminder my experience was 2012-2013. I did hear 2014 was a touch different, but my experience was that Toby was just not touched on, and the quotev quizzes I had picked up as a wee tween at the time reflected that. 80% of them had him in the background with Clockwork.

I can already tell from the start of your convo it seems like you want to take this conversation into the direction of Misogyny against Female CrP Characters and I'm 1000% okay with that and completely agree.

I'm talking from my experience since you "don't know where I got those ideas" lol.

On that waffle point, my memory is fuzzy, but I'm talking about back then. The CrP Fandom was very against people writing Toby however they preferred/like. You were more hard-pressed to get flamed for writing/drawing him "the wrong way" than writing him at all. The point of my post was talking about how you walked on eggshells back then. It's not as bad now, mind you, but it was then from my experience.

And that is interesting because the energy of the Fandom now is very Toby centric. I think why people feel the need to confess now is because they feel that.

In one-shot books and scenarios if he wasnt mentioned, people would always ask to add him. Of course he's gonna get some kind of hate, misinterpretation, and stuff but so did jeff. Literally you were slimed for liking him too. Called 'basic' and a 'fangirl'. I admit I was a young child who had little tid-bits of the fandom in 2015-2020, before fully gaining the ability to indulge in it fully in 2021. But I do remember always seeing these things of him, my first wattpad story had him in 2016, my obsession with jeff in 2015 led to me to see him often, and i have arts of him saved from 2016-2017 still somehow. Of course experience must be different for everyone but you cannot deny, despite the experience you personally had, Toby was a well liked character and included in lots of the major stuff. Like ieatpastaforbreakfast. Wouldn't that comic be criticized for him? Nope. No criticism until people got older and saw the weird Lazari stuff. That comic came out a LONG time ago too. Literally the waffles thing too was a huge huge headcanon that literally everyone loved, his whole thing is 'masky hey masky.' He was always around bugging masky more than he ever was truly with Clovkwork.

The clockwork thing you said touched a nerve so yeah the misogyny in that statement of Toby only mentioned when clockwork was...

Okay so let's start with why. Clockwork came out first, true but she was NEVER popular. She had hardly any content. Again if toby wasn't popular he wouldn't have had so much fangirls drag clockwork through the mud. Dont you remembered the INSANE jealousy? You cant be taboo and have tons of fics of your CANON at the time gf be turned into the toxic villain ex. All the girls were like that because of the obsession with the men. So that statement is not only false but heavily Misogynistic because it was the other way around. Like Nina oh god her haters were hell. The girls were only really ever mentioned when a guy was mentioned. Not the other way around and its so upsetting that people believe that. Jane, Nina, only mentioned of Jeff was around. Clockwork, toby. Judge angels, only of bloody painter was mentioned. Other than that, girls like zero, nurse ann, suicide Sadie, eyeless lulu, were rarely ever brought up. Toby is only popular because of his looks these days. And his submissive mischaracterization. On tiktok people literally tried to use his lack of bladder control for watersports. Its a weird thing becauseits apart of his condition that real people have. Its not that I have a problem with Toby. I love him. He's cute. I literally had him as a favorite awhile back. Its just the way he's the ONLY thing people cared about. The girls were tabooed way more yet no one obsesses over them like they should, not in the way Toby is. So that makes no sense.

Wrapping up. I get it, if that was what you remembered. We were all quite young, and this fandom is full of toxicity but toby was never ever a character you had to be hush hush around. He was generally very loved and a HUGE reason for the misogyny towards clockwork that she still faces. I know we've improved a bit with that. I'm so happy to see more fanart of the girlies, but we do still have a long way to go. There was also never a 'right way' to perceive toby until much later or when the 'fangirls' took over, aka the anime boy-ified versions which I'll admit sparked a fight about how to draw/write him at first but both kind of eventually settled. Remember those creepypasta summoning tutorials it ALWAYS said 'leave waffles out' lol. The good old days.

Also absolutely no hate to you, hard feelings, anything at all!!! Also it took me a bit to respond because I also went back to do my research to check if I was incorrect!
