TIL that hormone replacement therapy is used by older women when going through the menopause to ease symptoms. i learnt this from my mother who is a retired nurse who is now a medical advocate for older women and she's big mad about how hrt has been demonised the scary "trans treatment" when in her mind its a marvellous bit of modern medicine that can improve the lives of so many for whatever reasons they need it. more estrogen (or testosterone) for all!
Yup cis men and cis women are prescribed testosterone, estrogen, etc for a variety of reasons.
just a reminder that cis people who are receiving hormones to feel more like themselves are receiving GENDER AFFIRMING CARE. in fact, most of the people who receive gender affirming care are CIS PEOPLE.
joe rogan talks about taking testosterone all the time to feel more like a man = gender affirming care
old men taking boner pills cause they canāt get it up = gender affirming care
cis women taking spironalactone for their pcos = gender affirming care
women who reached menopause taking hormones = gender affirming care
gender affirming care is actually SO INCREDIBLY NORMAL and trans people are the ones getting demonized for it.
Iām going to add onto this because I saw a lot of ādoes that even count?ā and āthanks to (insert type of cis person here) for being a starting point for trans healthcareā type of comments.
And Iāll be honest Iām kinda pissed off at those thoughts.
Because yes, it does count.
Hormone therapy, in a lot of ways for cis people, is gender affirming care. To make them feel more āmanlyā or āwomanlyā or whatever thing cis people need to feel comfortable as a cis person. That is gender affirming care.
Whatās more⦠they arenāt a starting point, and none of this is āpioneeringā in the field of gender affirming care.
We, as people, knew more about gender affirming back in 1919 than we do now (sort of), and this is where I ask queer people to KNOW YOUR HISTORY before saying anything.
Dr. Magnus Hirschfeld's Institute for Sexual Research did so much to push for and actually pioneered gender affirming care and queer rights back in the early 1900ās.
Hirschfeld was a Jewish doctor who lived in Berlin and the work done at his institute was beyond ahead of its time.
And we lost all of it.
We lost all of it, and more, because of pure hatred and evil.
And because of that hate we are seen as some kind of ānew thingā that just āpopped up out of no where.ā
Evil erased lives, bigotry erased history, and we are still recovering from the acts of hatred toward so many people.
So, yes, this matters a lot. And itās very important to know your history.
