You are the hole in my head, you are the space in my bed, you are silence in between what I thought and what I said.
No light, no light; Florence and the Machine.
General reminder to the pagans out there:
Making a supreme goddess figure part of your spirituality? Great! Worshiping a mother goddess? Wonderful! If that brings joy and meaning into your life, excellent!
"Once upon a time long ago, people all worshiped a great goddess until THE PATRIARCHY conspired to overthrow her and replace her with a CRUEL PATRIARCHAL GOD" - that's pseudohistory and conspiracism; there's literally no evidence for it whatsoever, and it can and does drag people down the new age to alt right pipeline.
Getting Back Into Your Practice
Sometimes life is shitty and your spiritual practice doesn't take priority. Thats okay. Here are some tips for how to get back into your practice once you're feeling up for it.
Cleanse and Clean Your Space This is defiantly the first think you should focus your energy on. This can take as long as needed and as intensive as you want or feel is needed. Spiritual and physically cleanse your space. Pick up items, open windows and start your cleansing method of choice.
Redo Wards and Protections Once you've cleansed its important to redo your protection. Cleanse to get rid of, protect to keep it away. Even if nothing has *hit* your protections and wards, its important to keep up to date on them being energized.
Keep Actives Low on Spoons Now that you've done the basics, stick to low spoon actives and slowly build from there. Even if you feel super energized and ready to get into it- you want to take things slow. This'll help you from losing steam..
Slowly Add Back In Your Daily Practice This is totally unique person to person, but dont expect to be back into your multi step daily routine right away. Add in each step one at a time, or slowly so you wont feel overwhelmed.
Come Up with a Ritual Youre EXCITED About You want to focus on the parts of witchcraft you love. Do something you've always wanted to try, something you always love doing, or anything that will make you excited for the working.
Pick a New Topic, Not an Older One Getting into your practice and going to an older topic might feel disheartening. Pick a new topic like astrology, plants, or an aspect of witchcraft you havent gotten too into before. Then go back to the older topic you left on.
Do Some Divination on What You Need Right Now Spend time with your spirit team, deities or ancestors and figure out what you should be focusing in on right now. Maybe you need more rest, maybe theres a ritual they want you to work on.
Remember You Dont Have To Do Magic Daily Dont put too much stress into doing something every single day. Take breaks. Youre still a witch.
I hope these helped. Remember to take things slow and dont let the pressure of getting back into it weigh you down. Magic is suppose to help not hinder.
The harvest

Max i didn't know you were into witchcraft and i respect your opinions on stuff in general so. One quastion. How does one find great sources to learn about that topic and form their own opinions? Like any mainstream book on the matter is titled something like "cosmic fanny reclaim your divine feminine" or "buy pretty and overpriced shiny items to perfect your rituals" like guys please
Yes I’ve been quietly practicing since about 2018! I tooootally know that feeling. I spent the first couple of years at the back of the bookstore with a stack of books from the occult section just reading and reading and reading and I’ve come across plenty of authors who write straight up horseshit.
Finding good sources is always a pain in the ass. But also understand that witchcraft is a very, very broad term that encompasses a lot. If you have a specific idea in mind of what you’re interested in learning (herbalism, color magic, chaos magic, kitchen witchcraft, etc), you can look and see what books are popular. Then, I recommend searching up the author’s name with Reddit in your search tags. Reddit LOVES to talk shit and act smart so if the author you’re searching up is bogus, you can read all about it. Sometimes they will recommend authors who aren’t terrible. That’s how I’ve found the authors I respect.
If you’re just starting and have no clue WHERE to start, I highly recommend two authors. Christopher Penczak is a queer witch who has a series called The Temple of Witchcraft that takes you through a really in-depth course of study that involves meditation, self-reflection, and basics of magical theory. When you’re ready to start getting into intermediate spell casting and such, I recommend Jason Miller, especially The Elements of Spellcrafting. He explains things so directly and in such a clear manner it’s easy to get the hang of the theories he presents.
If you’re wanting to do deity work that’s a whole other post haha.
And of course, you have my discord. Please always feel free to hit me up to discuss practice, ask questions, or find resources!
sure cultural appropriation is bad and all but why are we pretending that white americans consulting their genetic ancestry profiles to determine which european cultural aesthetics they should adopt isn’t also weird
like
1.) the implication that a connection to Authentic Tradition™️ is an innate part of people’s hierarchy of needs is actually really disturbing
2.) the valorization of racial heritage DNA as the true arbiter of what you can and should regard as profound
3.) “my cheek swab says I can reclaim Odin” barf
4.) also uncomfortable how often people will claim they want to ~reclaim the culture of their ancestors~ but insist that the culture of the last 1000+ years that their ancestors actually practiced doesn’t count, because it’s Christian… and the piecemeal Frankenstein of alleged preChristian beliefs and mystical Victorian racism that their actual ancestors may have had nothing to do with is far more appealing
No better way to read about Hekate than with a little black dog on your lap -u-

One of the things that really gets me when it comes to online witchcraft and magic spaces is how hard people push the narrative that beginner magic is dangerous. It really isn't. No demon is going to show up and suck out your soul because you accidentally summoned it. No deity is going to go out of their way to harm you. Most spirits can be dealt with using a basic banishing spell. It is extremely uncommon for witches to hex each other, but you wouldn't guess it from the fear mongering that goes around about it.
What IS important for beginner witches is learning mundane skills like discernment and critical thinking. Because when you're just getting started, the most dangerous thing you are going to encounter is other practitioners preying on newbies. Know how to spot grooming. Know how to spot cult-like behavior. Know how to read books critically. Know how to spot bullshit when you see it.
Have fun with beginner magic. Get messy. Make mistakes. Fuck around and find out. There's no need to be afraid of it. No one ever cultivated a craft or skill by being too afraid to DO.
Folktale week!! Rebels - with witches !!! Costume - which is actually based on my village’s folk clothing. Sadly there weren’t much resources about it. That was all for me this year. Hopefully next time I’ll be able to properly plan ahead :’) Tree and Star

Whoa there, pardner! What have you done to make sure that belief or practice actually originates in ancient times and didn't come from the imagination of a repressed Victorian romantic?
