              ❝  If   you   keep   going   out   there,   you   need   a   plan   Kat  ❞   voice   stern,   but   still   holding   onto   as   much   𝙳𝙴𝙻𝙸𝙲𝙰𝚃𝙴𝙽𝙴𝚂𝚂   as   he   could,   Wyatt   lightly   lifted   his   cousins’   arm   with   one   hand   and   looked   over   it,   seeing   if   it   had   any   chance   of   being   infected  …  or   poisoned.  With   his   other   outstretched   over   the   top   of   the   bloody,   tarnished   bullet   wound  ━  his   magic   worked   to   pull   the   shred   of   metal   out   and   then,   swiftly,   began   healing   it.  ❝  They’re   not   just   people   anymore.  They’re   not   an   ‘  easy   fight  ’.   They’ve   changed   to   𝚂𝚃𝙾𝙿   us,   okay?  It’s   dangerous. ❞

teeth  clenched  as  her  wound  protested  the  movement,  kat  couldn’t  tear  her  eyes  from  THE  SOFT  GLOW  as  her  arm  knitted  itself  back  together.  that  was  something  she  doubted  she’d  ever  get  used  to  seeing.  trying  to  ignore  his  reprimands,  ( yeah,  kat  already  knew  it  had  been  A  DUMB  PLAY,  she  wasn’t  that  thick-headed. )  kat  carefully  stretched  out  her  fingers  before  curling  them  into  a  fist.  not  even  a  twinge.  like  it  had  NEVER  HAPPENED.  

Despite being ever so powerful, the epitome of someone who was supposed to be so strong. The demon fights never got any easier. Sure, being prepared ━ going into a fight where they ‘ knew the enemy ’, when things were laid out with each possible problem being outlined and counteracted, made things safe. He didn’t have to worry about being hurt, or someone else being harmed. It was a simple in and out mission. But it had never been anything physical that brought Wyatt down when it came to hunting demons. 

Every time he saw them, every time he was in the underworld. It never got any easier because they never made it easier. Every attack was a taunt and an attempt to push him over the edge. Every little remark they made, it dug under his skin more than anything else ever would. He tried so hard to ignore it all, to not let the way they looked at him, like they knew ━ knew he was going to slip ━ that they were going to win, get to him. But even when he thought he was okay it came straight back to him when everything was quiet.   “ Yeah, I’m good ”  with a bright smile, he’s pushing it all away, just so they don’t worry   “ You know, Mel would probably see that as a good thing.”   him, being quiet that is. Not that it matters because he’s just using it to change the subject.

as  a  kid,  wyatt  had  been  kat’s  METRIC  OF  STRENGTH.  it  made  sense,  he  was  the  oldest  of  them  and  as  a  child  she’d  believed  that  with  age  came  some  DEEPER  UNDERSTANDING  of  the  world.  in  a  way  she’d  been  right,  wyatt  was  strong,  but  he  was  also  allowed  his  WEAKNESSES,  just  as  they  all  were.  now  kat  could  understand,  it  wasn’t  just  his  job  to  look  after  them,  it  was  up  to  all  of  them  to  watch  out  for  each  other.  THAT  was  what  it  meant  to  be  family.  

so  watching  him  play  off  the  conflict  swirling  inside  him  with  a  joke,  yeah  kat’s  NOT  GOING  TO  PLAY  that  game.  won’t  watch  a  member  of  her  family  suffer  in  silence.  even  if  she  does  possess  all  the  subtly  of  a  sledgehammer.  ❝  yeah,  okay.  you  wanna  TRY  THAT  AGAIN  on  someone  who  hasn’t  known  you  literally  their  entire  life?  ❞  going  down  to  the  underworld  to  take  on  some  upper  level  demon  with  delusions  of  becoming  THE  NEW  BIG  BAD,  it  was  turning  out  to  have  unintended consequences.  

see, sober melinda might’ve been embarrassed when reminded of her little show with kat.  drunk melinda, on the other hand, becomes excited. face lights up, bounces on her heel, with a big smile.  “ooooooh, we could do a different soundtrack!  moana sounds SO much better, let’s do it.  please, kat?  please ? ”  and they could get everyone else involved for the ‘we know the way!’ it’s perfect!  “it’ll be fun, we have to.”  normally, this is the part where she brings out the puppy dog eyes. instead, she does exactly what she did the last time: she starts singing.   “ moana — make way, make way !! ”
