I love writing insecurities and C!Mumbo is the perfect person to write in that way—the way he tackles them as well is interesting to think about. In this scene in an (hopefully) upcoming fic I'm currently writing, he's seen trying to reassure himself that he can handle more things than the average person as a firefighter. (And as another thing, but that's a spoiler.)
Because if he can't handle it, then why did Pearl hire him? Why is he one of the only firefighters if he can't do the job? In his head, he's trying to ignore and try to get rid of years of self-diminishing his efforts and it's not really working. You can tell that he doesn't really believe that he's a good firefighter or even deserves the job. But he has to do it, or he's just proving his insecurities that they're correct and he should quit.
Scar means well, everyone else means well, but Mumbo is just battling his insecurities.

I think people make C!Mumbo way too organized in fics in regard to how he handles himself and the things around him. It's very important to me that everyone knows that he would not take anything even remotely distressing well.
One trope I find quite interesting is when a character tries their hardest not to cry, and it blows up in front of them at the wrong time after they ignore all of their emotions for way too long, and they break down. This fits C!Mumbo a LOT and I NEED more fics with this trope!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I absolutely love putting C!Mumbo in Situations. Put the guy who gets stressed about picking a favorite color in an apocalypse. He would be so bad at taking care of himself & defense—but he always has the ability to survive things out of chance (he did get 3rd in S6 Demise). I want to put him in dangerous positions that he barely gets out of alive.
Even better if you put him with somebody he barely works with. He gets stressed super easily and he would probably never be the same again.
I just think he needs some spice in his life. It's very interesting to watch him in the Life Series for this exact reason.
Jokes on you that fic was the reason I made this post. It's really good though and it made me cry at the end.

AGHH but I always liked putting characters like Mumbo in those types of situations because its very interesting to think of what he'd do.
