Inktober Day 29 - Lesson

This one’s inspired by the Shikoku Pilgrimage. I learned SO many lessons while walking it. I learned my true limits physically & mentally. I learned that I can't (and shouldn't) plan everything. I learned to trust in the universe a lot more.

Around the 7th day of our 50-day pilgrimage, my knee gave out completely. We happened to schedule two rest days on a small island off the coast called Tebajima. I wasn't able to put any weight on my leg at all, I really was wondering if we would have to do the rest all by taxi/bus.

Just outside of our lodging was a beach that looked out over the ocean with a panoramic view of Shikoku. It felt like hitting pause in a video game. I did a lot of reflection there. This was my dream for 20 years, but it isn't at all like I had planned. It was bittersweet feeling this dream changing in real time.

However, those two rest days (along with a lot of kindness from the locals) were enough to get me back to walking.

So many of the best moments happened when things didn't go according to the plan. We would run into a familiar face or receive unexpected osettai.

My friend has been hatching out some of the eggs his sharks have been laying, and as a shock many of them are albino! They're ridiculously cute, so I painted one of them for him.

if you are unsure what the endless forest is its a really interesting game where you play as a deer with a human face. the only form of communication in game is through deer noises and gestures

the ultimate problem here i think is the fact human faces are so full of expression compared to animal faces. it doesnt make you feel the same thing!!!!

human beings are super expressive in different ways from animals. we're incredibly limited on large visual cues for the most part, no ears or tail. posture plays a part of our cues but a lot of it is in facial expressions so its hard to portray anything human unless it has a human face and i think in this case it isnt uncanny valley enough to actually draw notice away from human features. kind of takes over

I'll be at MCM October this coming weekend, with a handful of new items, including new sticker sheet designs, a new hand-printed t-shirt and a giant kanto pokemon scroll (and some accompanying rice paper prints).

I will also have catalogues with all of my convention items that will hopefully make browsing and decision-making easier!

I am at table C-04 - this is the further end of Artist Alley down from the S6 entrance.
