We also have a tandem available to try.  It allows for two kids and steering, from the rear, by the adult.  8 speed internal hub, rear rack, light system, and drum brakes.  Its a very similar set-up to a bakfiet.  

A bakfiet is always good for a parade.  Just add some costumes and ride.

If you are getting a bike that will take the place of car trips-- it needs to have easy, always on, lights.
