spielberg is a has been, this isnt his "best movie in years" (there hasnt been a good spielberg movie in general in nearly 2 decades) and the trailer sells you a complete lie that you're going in for some fun cool alien sci-fi thriller. i thought this movie was going to be akin to Arrival with a focus on modern ufology lore, instead you get an awkward 2.5 hour chase movie where nobody is in any real danger, characters just kinda drop out halfway through, it ends abruptly and before anything fucking exciting happens. its just fucking sloppy. even if you like alien/ufo crap like me theres very little of it in the movie, all of the exciting shit in the trailers only appear during the last 10 minutes and they're just clips being played on the news, none of that actually happens in the movie. the cinematography isn't anything notable, the score is like any other fucking boring john williams composition. i felt like the decrepit wheelchaired alien they wheel out into the newsroom at the end of the movie when it was over. i should also note that the theater was almost empty on an opening weekend screening and my friend group and I were the youngest people in the audience by a minimum of 2 decades.
