fic i've been working on a shuggy fic since april 2024. i'm writing it to completion before publishing it on AO3; once i start posting chapters, i'll link the story here! (and any other one piece fic i end up writing)

the scene with barto club in the early elbaph arc reminded me of this scene with buggy when they were young. shanks really does have a softness within him and he's constantly having to bury it to fulfill this duty he feels beholden to, this destiny that he's been told he is an integral part of.

especially considering the popular interpretation that oda uses dialogue bubbles, etc. to convey an amount of emotional distance between what shanks is outwardly saying and how he truly feels

covering young shanks' face with his hair in ch 19 gives a similar sense of that distance. i don't think he ever truly considered leaving buggy's side.
