The words hit him. Hard. He found it difficult to hid just how deep they went. It was so difficult to resist the urge to just throw something old back at her. Call her dead weight. Something to stop feeling the way he did. To lash out and hurt her just as much. But instead, he took a slow breath. Then another. "I guess it is," he managed, but said nothing more.
