No, you don’t understand, she wasn’t just trying to hide it from Boscha, if that were the case, she would’ve just hidden it like Willow did. She burnt it because she thought Willow would be better off if she just forgot about their friendship, she was so ashamed of how she hurt her that she wanted to erase herself from Willow’s mind. That’s why she specifically burns her own face in the memory.

Her arc throughout the rest of the episode is about her realising that their friendship did have value, and that it’s worth remembering.

“I can’t believe I nearly destroyed all of this”

Because… perhaps part of the reason why Amity doesn’t tell Willow the truth at first, is because she undervalues herself; She assumes that Willow doesn’t care. That Willow doesn’t care about Amity THAT much, that Willow was never as invested in their relationship… To Amity, this was everything, but obviously to someone as cool as Willow, she’s just going to get over it! And it’s this kind of self-loathing and hatred, that underestimation and dismissal of one’s importance to others- It shows just how toxic that can be to the ones who DO care! Because then Willow herself gets the impression that Amity doesn’t care, except…
