My system is flawed but I stay protected

But all interactions are immediately rejected

For someone to like my song

Maybe even love it

My tune isn't for many

Not a very popular style

In a rare genre

And so few get to hear it

I so rarely share my sounds

I don't believe in their power

I'll never capture someone's ear

Much less enrapture a heart

Those who hear it turn away

Or at the very least don't stay

It's to the point I refuse to hit play

Besides no one will ask to hear it today

Or any other damn day.

There are times

When words put to paper sting

When the ink so black

Tastes of blood,

Sadness

And pain

You can crumple the piece

And throw it away

But the hurt will linger

The emotions already set and dried

What was written keeps living

A nightmare spilled forth

It haunts your soul

You gave it life

Even if it made part of you die

Rise and fall

Curves left and right

Drive through the mountains

At dawn's first light

Alone with my thoughts

And the sounds of the highway

Such breathtaking views

Along this scenic byway

There are deer and eagles

And an angry loud stream

Fresh air to taste and breathe

And peaceful thoughts to dream

The roads that brought me here

Will take me back home

But it wont be long before again

Through these hills I roam

Took a trip to Babcock State Park and the New River Gorge in West Virginia today. My first trip with my new vehicle. Scenery was awesome, as always. And this was without a doubt the most fun I've ever had driving a vehicle. The super curvy roads up and down the hills were a blast. Saw some deer and also had a Bald Eagle fly across in front of me while driving. Country roads, take me home!

Not even right half the time

With no rhythm in my rhyme

Falling face first into the lines

Drove by and missed all the signs

Speed up the forged glory

Type out another macabre story

I'm not the bad guy this time

Wanting a connection isn't a crime

But some stains will never come out

I shouldn't have taken that route

You were a comfortable place to play

But the light within you turned grey

The boy rode his bike down the street

He sees a newly paved section

The excitement to ride over it builds

He thinks of how smooth it will feel

And how fast he could ride over it

So he speeds up

Wind whipping through his loose shirt

And his feet a blur as he pedals

And then he slips

The bike goes down

And so he does as well

And now he's upset sitting in the road

Picking fresh black asphalt gravel pieces

Out of his knees and his arm

At least he's not bleeding too much

He dusts himself off the best he can

Picks up his bike and rides home

Defeated and dejected

From that moment forward

He was fearful of anything new

Anything exciting

Anything that looked too good to be true

That kid never had a chance

That kid was me
