20-Something Steps to Get Your Grove Back
Write your goals down. Keep yourself committed. Post them at your desk, write them on your calendar, hang them on your fridge. Force yourself to look your goals in the face, every single day.
One goal at a time. Step by step, take your time. Don’t overdo your schedule or your heart.
Get up early. Now that I work from home, getting up early is hard, but it is no secret that getting up early gets my brain working faster and stronger than sleeping until noon. It also gives me extra time for devotions and quiet time on the deck with a cup of coffee.
Create a routine. Give yourself a schedule – and more importantly, stick to it.
Think good thoughts. I may not be the “glass half full” type of person, but a positive mind will get you so much further than a “glass half empty”.
Find inspiration. Create an inspiration board, get outside, scroll through Instagram feeds – find creativity everywhere.
Get excited. Allow yourself to laugh and cheer and delight in your dreams and visions.
Commit publicly. You’ll be pushed to go the extra mile when you’ve said something publicly.
Find and call on support. You will need people, so let them be there.
Understand that it will come and go. Your motivation may waiver, just don’t give in to the voices that tell you you can’t go on.
Celebrate every success, no matter how small. From a pat on the back to that new book you know you don’t “need”, allow yourself to feel good when you’ve made any type of stride.
Think about the positive, squash the negatives. Keep your head above water.
Build on the anticipation for the benefit of the finale. Push yourself, get excited, make it to the finish line.
Remember why you started in the first place. You have a vision, keep it in sight.
Start small. Go slow. Do well. Be humble. Do something simple, and strive to make it extraordinary.
Stop hiding. Step up and take a risk, get over the fears and get going.
Remember, you cannot create something you have already imagined. Start fresh. Create something you have never imagined.
Turn the TV off. Even as background noise, you are distracted, your mind is not where it needs to be.
Drink more coffee. Maybe it’s just me, but you can never have too much.
Create something for yourself. Do something just for fun, just for you.
Turn off the social media. As much as we are drawn to refresh Facebook one more time, we need a break.
Stop. Breath. Take a break. Don’t allow yourself to be overwhelmed. Step back and relax.
Be brave.
