❝Okay, I think he’s down this way❞ she whispered as she crept down the rocky mounds of the underworld. ❝—–Why did you bring me anyway? I mean, you’ve got pretty good fire power on your own… It’s not like you need mine.❞ And even if she did need back-up, someone like Wyatt or even Chris would have been better than her.
It didn’t add up, she couldn’t help but feel like her cousin was up to something. Patience was known to hunt down demons and protect the world from evil every other day, but Mel wasn’t exactly a demon hunter. She didn’t see the point of hunting something that came to her. She did her time; protected the innocent and vanquished evil. But, voluntary demon hunting? Definitely not a past time she was very familiar with. And she didn’t need to be. Between the power of three, her insanely powerful older brother, her half demon cousin and her brother Chris (who was desperate to prove he was every bit as powerful as Wyatt) there was really no need for her to be at the forefront of the demon hunt.
So she focused on other things: school, her sorority, her friends, extra curricular’s… Things any normal overachieving college student worried about.
But as she looked down at her brand new shoes that were splattered with demon guts, she was slapped with the harsh reality that she was anything but normal.
❝—–This place could really use some sunlight… And some odor eaters.❞
❝ Do not question the visions. ❞ There’s a false air of superiority in her
voice, overly exaggerated with a wide smile on her face as she follows
her cousin down the bizarre, rock corridor. ❝ I saw you using your
mojo for good so chances are I can’t do it without you. ❞ That wasn’t
the only reason she’d brought Mel with her on this excursion. Though it
certainly helped. Normally she tried to prevent her premonitions from
coming true but this one had been a strange one. No danger, at least
not to Mel, but clearly she’d been doing something important or
Patience wouldn’t have seen it. Most likely the bad guy they were
looking for needed to be fought by Mel specifically, or at least more
than one witch.
But the other reason Patience had dragged Melinda with her was
because she missed hanging out with her. They’d gotten close as Mel
had gotten older, but then seemed to have drifted a part again. Probably
due to their different priorities. Patience had given up her degree for a
low paying job that gave her the freedom to demon-hunt. Mel clung to
as much real-world stuff as she could.
On second thought maybe demon hunting was not the best bonding
activity she could have picked.
❝ You know, there’s actually some really pretty places down here.
They’re not usually occupied though. Bad guys seem to prefer the
dark, dank caves. I don’t get it.❞
