This is one of the best beginner backpacking routes in the bay area, allowing for easy 1 night out and back trips

In the winter there are many mornings with early morning fog within the bay area. This fog provides nice shade to protect against the sun and overheating when doing steep hikes such as this one. It also provides beautiful views over a sea of fog if you make it to the top of a hike with views of the bay such as this one, but you have to be quick because it can evaporate by midday

After a crazy storm our last night, we enjoyed drinks on the ferry back to Ventura while watching seals, dolphins, birds, and a humpback whale feast (#14).
