I have experienced the most unusual spinal vibration last night. I have never before experienced a meditation with excess spinal energy vibrating as a ‘frisson’. I have had mild wave like vibrations. I have experienced single strong jerks. I have experienced strong wave like vibrations. But never before have I experienced a frisson. Frisson is also commonly known as a ‘musical/aesthetic chill’.

With my first experience of meditational frisson, the wave like meditational vibration in my practice turned into a quick and subtle vibration. I didn’t and couldn’t notice the wave like motion. I just knew from my experience as a human of 47 years that it was ‘the good chill’. The kind that leads to instant goosebumps. The kind one experiences in a moment of great emotion.

The emotion could be that of fear or excitement or delight. The shudder can happen in the moment when one’s heart is being broken. Last night, it was delight. It felt as if a larger than before gathering of energy was taking place at will. Not that I can apply conscious, adrenaline infused will power to any meditation of mine. I can’t. There has been such calmness in my meditations that I haven’t been able to apply adrenaline to any technique. Calmness is the inner cancel culture against adrenaline induced mental activity.

Meditational will power really is in keeping one’s attention gently at a desired depth of mind. Whether doing so leads to spinal vibrations or not is not in the meditator’s hands. Life energies have a mind of their own. One can only hope and pray to influence such life giving energies. One can pray for the influence to be beneficial for further spiritual growth.

When I say ‘energy gathering at will’ I mean that every time I dived my deepest best in meditational concentration, I experienced a frisson. My mind was evoking a frisson of delight with meditation last night!
