“Of course I know that.” He replies softly. His answer wasn’t hesitant, and it sure sounded genuine.

Your tugging heart warms, but not enough to burn away the aching sensation of insecurity. You want to turn away from the sunset to look at him. You want to see that he’s genuine, but every part of your body feels heavy, and you’re scared that if you move, you might just break in half.

“You do?” Your voice wavers ever so slightly, but Kai notices. He never fails to.

Taking your hand in his, he agrees once more, “I do.” You can hear the soft smile in his voice, “You know you can trust me, too?”

His thumb rubs circles on the back of your hand, his fingers interlocking with yours.

“Yeah.”

You can hear him turn to look at you, and this time, you find it in you to look back, turning your head until your eyes meet his.

His hair is slightly messed, falling onto the blanket and over his pretty face. You think he looks cute.

His smile is widening at the sight of you, and he asks, “You do?” His voice does not waver.
