NMP Evaluation:
I had originally set out at the beginning of my NMP to take on two competition brief’s, one on my own and the other with Craig. As well as that I was hoping to complete a third project either a logofolio or something illustrative.
I started out as originally planned and chose the WWF D&AD brief, I found the brief quite challenging which is what I had hoped as I had chosen the brief for that reason. I spent a lot of time trying to come up with a decent concept, anything I came up seemed to be more of a back end aspect of a final outcome rather than a campaign concept. Eventually I came up with the concept ‘Make Molehills out of Mountains while I was brainstorming animal related phrases. At first it didn’t stand out to me as a strong concept probably because I had got into my head the concept had to relate Social Media to effect the target audience but once I started thinking of it in different ways like ‘Mountain Vs Molehill’ I began to see how relevant it was to the brief and chose it as my concept going back to the original term turned on its head the phrase said that their was a way to make big problems small. This led to the final concept idea of illustrating characters that would be seen in oversised problems helping each other out.
I spent a lot of time coming up with the right style of character for the target audience to relate to I didn’t want it to seem like I was trying to be cool while at the same time I didn’t want to come off childish. I eventually found the right style and went to work on my characters. I am really happy with the way the final illustrations I created for my posters however I feel the planting illustration isn’t as strong as the other two.
They also took a lot longer than expected to draw and vector. I had to take them into photoshop as line work to colour them rather than use just illustrator and arrange the layers as I had already started getting well on into the NMP. However I feel they was worth the effort and they looked great once I had picked the right colours for them. I chose a typeface down to some research I had done on the target audience but I felt it made the poster feel a bit weak. It wasn’t until the last minute that Lee suggested I change it, which was probably the most stressful part of my NMP considering I had already reworked the back end aspects once ten minutes before Lee suggested the new typeface.
One positive thing that came out of the messing about with concepts at the beginning was that I already had the back end pretty much worked out in my head apart from a guerilla campaign. I knew I wanted the target audience to make a profile of some kind that would give them news, tips and advice on how they could actually help rather than just prompting them to donate. I feel that in the end my site and app profile for this brief are really strong and the way I have designed them so that they work hand in hand with social media rather than just one leading to the other is one of the strongest parts of my response.
After I had changed all the tweaks that needed tweaking I was really happy with all of my final outcomes I managed to come up with a guerrilla idea and got given one of Jo that I had messed about with in my head before so I mocked them both up. I think the reason I struggled to come up with a guerrilla idea for so long was because I had got it into my head that it needed to be something that would through social media but seen as my site was so interlinked with social media I didn’t think it was so necessary anymore that it relied solely on social media.
Overall I am extremely happy with my response to the WWF brief I think I have answered the brief well.
Around the time I started WWF Dan asked me to get involved with a project he was working on with Chloe and David, I had started my logo project by this point also but was advised that I concentrate on my bigger projects for the time being WWF and the project Dan invited me onto.
The project was a live brief and we were assisting Dan answer the brief in the way of test and idea generation for the client. There was a lot of twist and turns on the journey through this project and I must admit it through me a little for a while and also there was no end product due to the release date.
However I enjoyed coming up with ideas with the rest of the group and experimenting with tests and the storyboard ideas and Dan managed to knock out a nice making of animation for the final outcome which worked really well.
By this point I had also been given a few interesting projects through Soup and Machina. These included Soup Fifteen postcards and website and some short instagram clips for Machina’s signature coat. I enjoyed working on these as secondary projects they kept me busy and on the go with my work so I put them together with the logos I had created as secondary projects.
I am more happy with the placement work than the logos as I ran out of time and didn’t get chance to go back to them and refine them as well as create more whereas with Machina and Soup I was working to a client deadline.
I would of also liked to have worked with Craig on this last brief as we have worked well together in the past but I already had a lot on by the time he was ready to start the John Lewis brief so it wasn’t a plausible option for me at the time.
Overall I am happy with my NMP I feel I have worked hard and came out with some nice outcomes I am most happy with how WWF has turned out as it was a really tough brief.

Soup Fifteen:
Seen as the fifteen postcards work using a grid I decided to chose four to show as mock ups. I chose the two on the right due to the fact that I had to create these images myself, for the top one I decided to use a jpeg sequence that gets across the transition theme of the video and the bottom was a project that was heavily uploaded to instagram and about personal items so the squares, showing peoples faces and their objects, were a nice relation to instagram while showing the personal side of the project well.
I chose the right to due to the abstract nature of the images, it was hard to get across some of the themes in the videos with just one image so choosing abstract screen shots was a nice way to get the themes across.
Another challenge with this project was getting the images to sit nicely with each other.
Soup Fifteen:
Mock up of the final Soup Co website that will be used, they are updating it as part of their fifteen event so Mark asked that I have a go at it.
WWF:
Two guerrilla marketing ideas that would help drum up interest in the campaign in the way of teasers. The first idea is to place molehills around places the target audience is likely to be for example student campus’ and schools, along with the #tag these would lead the audience to the relevant social media pages.
The second would be to use paintings and boards of the illustrations from the posters, cleverly positioned in a way that involves them in their environment. They would be on a large scale that would hit home the concept of ‘Make Molehills out of Mountains’.
WWF:
I also updated the social media pages. Creating a new banner for them in the new typeface.
WWF:
I followed suit on the App using the same basic colour pattern as the website and changing the type, again it looks much better...

WWF:
I am also happy that I took Joanne’s advice on the website and changed it about a little... It now has a much smoother flow throughout it due to the knew arrangement and the home page is a lot better now the fog has disappeared.
The font and colours also work really well I toned the amount of colours I used down slightly sticking to a palette and the font again compliments the feel of the campaign and doesn't over power the eye like the last one.
It was frustrating that I had to change the typeface to match the posters after already reworking it once already, but thats life I suppose!
WWF:
My absolute final poster designs... I am happy I followed Lee’s advice no matter how much of a pain it proved to be! They look much better the type doesn't look lost anymore and has a much more friendly feel to it that compliments the illustrations while still staying modern and a little different, relating well to the target audience.
