Well, sinceyou are a beginner I would recommend you to not be discouraged. I’m still afraidof watercolors to be honest, but you just have to work and get going becauseafter you do that it’ll come naturally. I mean once you begin painting at firstyou’ll be thinking “but what if I screw this up and can’t fix it” but after awhile you’ll begin to work around that mistake and make it work, haha.

Watercolorscan be scary and that is fine!

Now for thematerials, hmmm. It really depends on how much you are willing to spend. Ofcourse since you yourself are a beginner I wouldn’t go crazy buying expensivestuff. Get whatever is at your hands and have some fun with them. When I firststarted painting I used really cheap watercolors and after I got use to them (bored)I started buying Van Gogh tubes (one per month). And after a year using them fromtime to time I began to buy “professional” paints (Sennelier).

For thepaper I would recommend getting some watercolor paper (Even if it soundsredundant the kind of paper one uses is important). This also depends on howmuch money you are willing to waste. There are different prices for differentneeds. I would suggest to anyone starting to buy a simple sheet of watercolor paper(it can be a cotton or wood pulp or whatever they have in store) you can cut itin sizes and try things on it, and in case you want to paint more or try differentkinds of paper, you can just buy a different sheet.

For brushesyou can use whatever you want honestly (as long as the brush can hold water). Iuse the cheapest ones because good god some of these brushes can be hard on yourpocket.

Now forcolors. Get a yellow, a blue and a red (or pink). You won’t have to worry thatmuch about pigments until you get high end watercolors. Most of the student orcheap ones won’t be using toxic pigments.
