           perhaps his heart as gone soft. trevor’s been having this thought far too often lately. especially in moments like this. it’s a simple request after all, all he can do is honor it. tonight they will not be enemies.

   “…well, that certainly helped. alright, you’ve gone up to acceptable. no longer are you just okay.”

             perhaps time has robbed him of the memories of his family. perhaps their actions. but he as he sits on the sink hole’s edge, the sink hole that had once been the belmont family hold. centuries worth of anger and knowledge swirled together into a library of blood. generations of belmonts pushing him towards success. to death of dracula. to the death of alucard’s father.

              he had been burned out of this home, this place. pitchforks, torches, the screams in latin and romania demanding that he leave. to have been dragged out of his home kicking and screaming by tiff and her brother. with the promise that it was worth it. that the home was not worth his life. that the hold would be fine, that he needed to leave. five years passes so fast when you run from what you once saved. 

              those days would not be remembered though, they will tell stories about the day that he ran from this place. they will tell stories about the trio who killed dracula, that he was the belmont to do it. that he lived up to the family dreams. the failure who could read. 

              sypha, as she so often is completely correct. his failures, will lost. the church will not allow that detail to survive him. trevor presses his face into sypha’s bare shoulder. he tries to bury the thoughts into the taste of her skin. peppering kisses gently up the skin. threading calloused fingers into her own. she supports him, the family’s failure and runt. she might even love him. he might love her. the thought brings his heart to chilled stop for a moment.

  “yes, i took note. it’s why you’re not unacceptable.”

   trevor spins the lit paper in his fingers before holding it out to alucard to offer. he’s still new to this. his family has spent so longer under the thumb of the church without so much as a hope of leaving it he never got to consider what it would be like to feel at home with another religon. 

    the world has changed though. he has spent nights curled up around alucard and sypha, eyes barely open listening to them discuss the words of god before the christianity wrapped it’s strangle hold on europe. it’s soothing almost the sound of them bickering about the state of word of torah. the speaker interpation of doctrine versus a traditional one. 

      he cannot read the holy book himself, the letters of latin and english spent more time jumping around on the page than he would be able to read for long periods of time. he doubted he would ever be able to understand the hebrew even if he tried. and audio books of any holy book are always tilted, but he’s learned enough to know what he’s doing. sort of.

  “i love my girlfriend. my boyfriend is… okay, i guess.”

  “belmont. you’re back.” and were he less… lonely? desperate? perhaps he’d be more teasing. less… soft. weakness is softness, after all, rolling over and revealing your underbelly. but after everything they’ve been through… shouldn’t he? shouldn’t he be allowed to feel like this? “i hope your travels went well.”

           a smile spreads over trevor’s lips. there’s softness in alucard’s voice, he had expected that there would be teasing at his return. but there’s a warmth to the dhampir’s tone and it makes his chest grow warm.
