we found wonderland.

i’ve never had a mouse of my own, i don’t know what they’re like for a house. but i’ve never had cats either. in the coleman household there has always been a dog to take care of, although they do carry a few more responsibilities than cats do, it’s impossible not to love them so much that you forget the effort you make. still, to begin with, i’d say a cat would be the wiser choice. who knows? in the future maybe that will help her take more responsibility and possibly own a dog sometime in the future.

She’s not bad with our dogs, I just think a new one would be way too much work right now especially with how busy I am. I’m a single mom at the moment and I already have enough on my plate, you know? So a kitten is how we’re starting out and hopefully it doesn’t backfire in my face.

well good a kitten is an easy one in the scheme of things, even easier than a puppy honestly. thank god for litter boxes. i definitely wanted a unicorn, i think most little girls do. i always wanted a little monkey though. 

Exactly. Mama likes easy, especially with two kids. I’m outnumbered by both animals and children. A little monkey? That’d be fun! Especially if the monkey was like Marcel from Friends.

okay wait, go back to the dogs. what are their names? and mice aren’t that bad! but if you get rats you have to buy two of them. they do not like to be lonely. 

Their names are Bea (Bean) and Charlie and I’ve had them since I was a youngin’. No rats, sir. Not today, Satan.

That is adorable. I think getting a kitten is a great idea! Kittens are super playful but also independent, so if she ever gets bored and needs to walk away from the kitten it won’t need constant attention. But I also think that something small that is interesting to her that allows her to learn–like a hamster or something–might be cool too.

I think so too. I just like the idea of a kitten being perfect for that short attention span. Like you said, when she wants to go do something else, the kitten will be perfectly fine and will just wait until she comes back and is ready to play. Plus - no training the kitten. Bless.

Well, that’s awesome. And while I personally love dogs more than cats, I can totally see the appeal of having one and you know, they do know how to take care of themselves which means, less job for momma. Haha! So I totally get it. Fingers crossed your daughter will go for a kitten; I’m sure she would absolutely love it. 

I’m more of a dog girl myself but our two dogs just aren’t cutting it for her! I guess they’re too “old” now but really, they’ve just gotten tired of her jumping on them. She did go for a kitten, thankfully! Hopefully she’ll be a little less rough with this one.

Maybe you will be lucky, Troi, and she will pick something you can get a stuffed animal to satisfy her with.  I do not think you have anything to worry about, just have to wait and see.  Has she ever been interested in gerbils, hamsters, or anything like that?  I should ask though, how old is she now?  It seems like forever since I have seen you and I feel bad about that.  

We’re getting a kitten, Benzo baby, no need to stress. A hamster wouldn’t be too bad but I’m happy we settled on a kitten. She’s almost four! She’ll be four in October. You’ll just have to make it up to us by attending the birthday party.

Oh no, does she have an interest in rats and creepy crawly things? Because if it’s anything with more than two eyes I would be even more worried for that. If it’s got more than four legs also, that’s gonna be an immediate no. Maybe you’ll just have to make a slide show to show her how adorable kittens are. A rabbit even - anything but the rats. How old is she now?

You know little kids - the more it makes adults squirm, the more invested they are in it. A bunch of sociopaths in my opinion. A kitten is the way we’re going, though! We’ll hit the shelter on Monday and see which one we can rescue.

awww that’s adorable! how old is she? im curious as to what she’ll want too, has she shown interest in any other animals? maybe itll be something like a bunny hopping around and looking adorable. i feel like that would be better than a mouse, one of those would run off and hide somewhere tiny!

Three, almost four. Aww, that’s a great age. It’s so much fun when they’re that age, because you know, you can actually interact with them, which is the most fun. At least I think so. I don’t have kids myself, but a couple of my friends do. Well, congratulations on the kitten. I’m sure she’s going to fall absolutely head over heels in love with it. Have you decided on a name yet? Or is your daughter going to name it when you pick it up?

It really is. She’s starting to figure out who she is and express herself. My phone is just endless photos of whatever she’s decided is fascinating that day. I think I’ll let her decide on a name but do you have any suggestions?

oh my god i love this. your daughter sounds just like me. i was constantly bugging my mum to grow our animal collection! she hasn’t told you what kind of animal she wants? you may want to give her a list of acceptable pets otherwise who knows what she’ll try to guilt you into! though i still fully support her for doing so. maybe she’ll want a ferret! or a chinchilla!

She agreed to get a kitten, thank goodness! You sound like you wanted all the exotic animals. Did you ever ask your mom for a unicorn or a fox? I always wanted a baby fox.

well you never know, let’s just hope for the best. Honestly, all animals are pretty cool, but lets say you probably don’t want a snake either. kittens can be the cutest thing, if she ever tells you I would want to know if she surprised you or you were right on the money! kids always tend to surprise me in the littlest of things and thats just on being an aunt!

We decided on a kitten! I sort of sweet talked her into it by showing her photos of adorable cats online and now she won’t stop talking about it. Snakes are actually really cool - when it’s not me feeding them whatever they eat.

Maybe somewhere in-between? I can’t think of what that could be, but maybe like a guinea pig? I think they are pretty independent, and I am sure that you could cuddle those properly. Hopefully she picks the kitten though like you’re hoping for. Maybe drop some subtle hints? Talk about how cute they are, and inception her mind!

Guinea pigs would be cute! If we hadn’t already decided on a kitten, I think we could’ve compromised on that. Maybe if she takes good care of her first fur baby, we’ll see how a second one sounds.

God, I remember when you were on Pretty Little Liars. just a kid, and now you’re a woman with a daughter? Time really does fly by, huh? Fingers crossed she’ll want a cat or a dog and not, you know, a horse or something. I don’t know how old she is or how old they have to be to have a horse as an animal of their own. Hahaha. Well, if she decides on a mouse, at least you don’t have to worry too much about cleaning and whatnot.

I know! It’s crazy. I never would have predicted myself as a mother but time is a funny thing. She’s three, almost four so now’s a good time to start learning about responsibility and I figure I owe her for paying so much attention to her little sissy. We’ve decided on a kitten though, thank goodness.

i’m sure that she will since she sees how much mommy does for her and everyone else. that’s another option, one that i’d go with, to be honest. you’ve gotta give yourself a break, Troi. she’ll understand in the long run once she falls head over heels for the kitty! could you imagine? think it’s finally sinking into others that we can’t exactly hit the teenager roles anymore. they were fun but that’s over and done with. how are you, though? you doin’ alright, my love?

A little kitten it is then. I’ll take her to the shelter this weekend and see which one she picks out. And yes, there’s only so much longer I can hide my wrinkles and age lines from the crystal clear cameras. I’m not graduating high school anymore, that’s for sure. I’m alright! I’ve just been busy mommy-ing it up and trying to work on some projects. How about you?

you’re right, you’re right. i feel so much pity for you having to run after your kids, much less having to shovel up horse dung and have to wash that thing. can you imagine just how much fun that would be? then again, my fingers are crossed also that she wouldn’t ask you for an elephant ‘cause that would be worse than a horse. you are not an old woman. we’re going to say we’re in our thirties even when we’re in our 60′s. so cute! she isn’t into the Disney princesses?

Exactly. I know Aurora is a big dreamer but hopefully she’ll take pity on me. Or I can always just get a kitten and not give her a choice. #momoftheyear I’m reaching forty, but I’m accepting it with grace. As long as I’m not asked to play a high schooler anymore, I don’t care. She is! But she loves her little animal sidekicks.
