Adler’s Favourite Disaster

A.K.A when you wanna cosplay a mf and everything is too big

Okay so, the average chest rigs like those would look too big on me and I do NOT want to buy from Temu. Then I will make it myself.

I made this with some low quality fabric lying around. The measurements are off and it wasn’t properly planned but once I’ve fixed the measurements I’ll get proper fabric.

Didn’t feel like making it look good and it was more about understanding how to go on about the process.

I bought waxed canvas online and everything else was from a nearby fabric store. The thing that took the most time was sewing the brown ribbon pieces to the flaps. It was so uneven :(

The other problem was that I had to fold the fabric seams and despite using a needle for fabric like jeans and canvas, the sewing machine just didn’t go through it… probably because it was a modern machine and it was folded into four layers. I had to hand sew some of the pockets because the machine couldn’t reach those parts.

In the end, it turned out better than I’d hoped. The medical bag is not permanent and was only pinned in place with a big safety pin on the inside.

This is not my usual style of writing, but I wanted to yap about the historical origins of Bell’s uniform in the last part of Nowhere Left To Run/character model. Does it say anything about the character? No. Except for the shit choice of pants.

If you spot anything inaccurate or know something more, don’t be afraid to let me know. I want to know more.

I am also going to treat this one model as the source for the post.

Is this even good? Because my writing is less than decent so if it doesn’t make any sense, sorry in advance.

Now onto the yapping

The mask. Nothing to say about here. It’s supposed to be a faceless character where every interpretation is up to the player. At least the designers didn’t choose a mask with mouth hole (those are hideous).

Same with the leather gloves. Nothing to add here either.

As for the rig, it’s specifically the chicom type 56 chest rig with a bag added on the right side.

While originating from China, the chest rig was a popular choice throughout many countries, including Soviet by the 1980s. Chicoms were often modified by users of the rig, so the added bag isn’t out of the ordinary.

The jacket is most likely an Anorak Smock or any of the likes. The closes resemblance to Bell’s is by Davpack or Blacks of Greenock anorak. Those are quite weather resistant and both were intended for the British military in the 60s/70s.

Tho the colours don’t fully match with Bell’s in game model, this is the closest I’ve found.

And here’s the nonsensical part of these clothes.

They don’t appear to be for combat, so it’s more up for interpretation when it comes to the reason. There is also a chance I’ll do similar yapping in the future.

Many of the other members of Perseus and the rest of the Safe house crew had pants for combat. No idea here.

In general, the pants look like your average men’s wide pants with a checkered or plaid pattern.

As for the shoes, I haven’t managed to find any identical in real life but I’m assuming them to either be a differently coloured version of some old combat shoes/boots.

After some more research: suspiciously looking like parade shoes. In a lighter brown.

In conclusion: Bell has a shit taste in all clothing that isn’t tactical.

Did I spend an idiotic amount of time for this? Yes. Did I sift through character models and concept models? Yes. Was it worth it? I don’t know. Will I do it again? If anyone wants me to. Have I proofread this post? Also no.

Sorrow, regret, remembrance and devotion.

Sorrow:

Of what could have been, the ignorant bliss that Bell once got to experience. The camaraderie between the people at the safe house. Is this a betrayal? Against who? Either Perseus, your own mentor and comrade. Or Adler, a man so much bigger yet so shrouded in half truths and full lies.

Regret:

The sorrow makes way for regret. How could you not? Your actions have consequences. The allies you’ve lost. Regret of what you’ve become, this puppet strung by a cunning crafter, well versed in his job.

Ultimately, Bell regrets not having a true hand in any choice. Reality fabricated by someone else.

Remembrance:

But still, Bell remembers. Memories are memories. Good and bad. The kind words of encouragement from Adler, spoken in a way Perseus never did. The friendliness from Lazar, such a shame he doesn’t exist anymore.

The way remembering works, so many details lost to time. Who you used to be, who you still am. Bell doesn’t remember anymore.

Devotion:

A word so intimate to Bell. Devotion can get you far but make you fall so fast. Bell is no stranger to such phenomena, the gun pointed by Adler makes it clear.

And Adler. Bell can only watch as Adler walks the line like a rope. Serving the CIA with such precision and ruthlessness, getting the job done.

You call me by a name that isn’t mine, crafted by words, cold and clinical, detached. Removed from a reality I know. Remade.

A weapon wielded by the slither of your tongue. Commands that I can’t ignore. Abide mindlessly. A single sentence and I complete the task, only to be discarded. A weapon that has no more use to you.

A being you don’t see eye to eye. Manipulation aside, were I ever human to you? You look at me, not up or down. But at my face, yet never in the eyes. Your face passive and neutral, never giving away the contempt you hold.

Put down like a dog, rebelled like a raging animal. You’ve destroyed me. Mind broken into pieces that will never be recovered. New ones being made, made whole by a temporary solution. Stapled together for your satisfaction.

Admit it, you hate me. The way I move, my fabricated existence. Must be hard to watch how a stranger, an enemy, is given your memories to twist into a personality. Am I the twisted view in your mirror, am I the clone of everything wrong?

What am I to you, Russell Adler?

Despite what Adler might say, the memory of Bell still lingers deeply in his mind. Haunting him.

He glimpses the asset in shadows of alleyways, always disappearing when Adler stops.

Sometimes, when he thinks no one sees, Adler will stare at people, hoping to see a fragment of a long gone soldier.
