I saw NCT last night (so fun!) and started writing out some thoughts but ended up word vomiting my feelings about the taemin concert instead? Which I haven’t talked about yet. Still processing tbh 😂😮‍💨. So here’s that!

It was fun to now see a group with a big production (NCT). as spectacular as that was, it made me even more grateful to have seen taemin on his own in a venue as ornate and small as the Chicago theatre. That experience was so intimate and focused. The way he filled every morsel of space in that room as if the air had been vacuumed out and there was only him left. the entire audience hanging off every move, every note, every word like it was oxygen. There was a connection in that space I may never experience again. That was special. That was personal. And my god there are quite literally no words in any language that come close to conveying the magnitude of his aura. the way he can be so completely consumed by music and performance even his fingertips vibrate as if lightning bolts of energy are passing through him. Shaking out his hands like an exorcism as his whole body erupts during the Want crescendo. and the against laws of physics way he can be so sturdy and powerful yet fluid, graceful and light. The part in The Rizzness where he skips across the floor comes to mind. How can he be so solid and so light? Taemin is truly the master of contrast in every aspect.

and his voice! His vocals! His range! The richness of his low tones to the sweetness of his falsettos. Vocal steadiness at the highest level of profession. How is this a man who isn’t continuously exulted for his voice? And Im so grateful for the sound production! The music was fully encompassing with base drops that vibrated my insides but was levelled to this perfect equilibrium that allowed his vocals to ring clear and unquestionable. That mic was ON. that man can SING. The impromptu acapella moments left no room for doubt if there was any. And you can tell how important singing is to him, particularly with the care and pride he put into his ballads. Clockwork has always been special to me and is now in another realm.

And the joy and silliness of this man. So cute so happy so humble. Somehow genuinely shy while teasingly confident (again the contrast!) so naturally delightful. It’s impossible not to adore him so much it almost hurts.

It boggles my mind that he actually exists and is real. All the pieces of an entire life and career that came into place for this exact moment in time to happen. Seeing him meant so much and I don’t think I’ll ever get over it.
