OâDriscoll Girl
Hello!!! I wanted to write a bit of info about my rdr2 fanfic, âOâDriscoll Girlâ. The fic is about Mary-Beth Gaskill, who, instead of being brought in by Dutch, is taken under the wing of Colm OâDriscoll and his boys. It is also a Kierabeth fic, but it will be a couple of chapters until Kieran finally makes an appearance (I will write down how each of the chapters is planned to go further down). Obviously, since Mary-Beth doesnât live with the van der Linde gang in this fic, Iâve had to give certain OâDriscoll boys names/personality (every important character will be shown/talked about further down aswell). The first chapter of the fic is already posted!
In case youâre wondering when Kieran will appear, hereâs the plan for all the chapters that Iâm planning on writing:
Chapter 1 (already out): Chapter 1 shows how Mary-Beth ended up with Colm and his brother, Connor, in the first place. Mary-Beth is around 9 here, since it wonât be a while until the OâDriscolls are officially founded.
Chapter 2: The early years of the OâDriscoll Boys. It will show Annabelle and Connor more and it will be about how the rivalry between the two gangs started. Mary-Beth is around 12.
Chapter 3: Chapter 3 will take place around 2 years before the main story of rdr2. It will establish relationships between Mary-Beth and other important characters. It will also show how Kieran joined the gang and how his and Mary-Bethâs relationship with each other started. Mary-Beth is 19/20.
Chapter 4: Starts just a couple of months before the main story. It will be about how the OâDriscolls moved into the states we see in the game and how they achieved their control over Valentine. Mary-Beth is 22, and remains that age until after chapter 7.
Chapter 5: Takes place during chapters 1-3, and ends just after the Blessed are the peacemakers mission. Mary-Beth will try to figure out how to deal with Kieranâs kidnapping and personal losses.
Chapter 6: Will take place during chapters 4-5. The OâDriscolls have temporarily moved to Mexico to rob banks and other scores, but Mary-Beth is still trying to push through her grief.
Chapter 7: Takes place during chapters 6. Mary-Beth tries to get up from not just the loss of Colm, but also the extinction of the entire gang itself. She finally gets to reunite with Kieran.
Epilogue (unsure if I will write this): Shows how Mary-Beth has handled the losses sheâs experienced and how she moved on from her outlaw past. Kieran and her now have a family, but she still thinks back on the family she once lost.
Important characters
A list of important characters that will appear in the fic, their relationship with Mary-Beth their personalities (also a lot of these characters donât have much screen time, if they even have screen time, so itâs difficult to know what their personalities are like, so I am kind of improvising on who they are as a character) and a song that reminds me of them:
Mary-Beth Gaskill: Mary-Beth remains pretty much the same from her actual character, with the exception of her being more out of camp than we see her in the game. Sheâs a pretty high ranking gang member, mainly because of her relationship with Colm himself, but also because sheâs one of the very few members that have been there since the very beginning.
Kieran Duffy: Kieran also remains very similar to how he is in the game. The only difference is that he actually survives in the fic. Heâs Mary-Bethâs love interest, but doesnât appear much in some chapters because of his kidnapping at the hands of Arthur.
Patrick Kelley: Patrick is the John to Mary-Bethâs Arthur. Just like Mary-Beth, heâs grown up with the OâDriscoll boys and is incredibly loyal to his gang. He often pretends to be dumber than he actually is, even going so far as to act like how he thinks Connor used to act, because he thinks thatâs the only way Colm will care about and value him. Patrick is also very fond of parties and will sing if Billy is playing.
Billy OâByrne: Billy is a low-ranking OâDriscoll that spends most of his time getting pushed around by others (mainly Declan, who will be shown further below). Heâs a close friend of Mary-Beth and an even closer friend to Patrick. He also has some romantic feelings for Mary-Beth, but isnât entirely sure what to do with them. Usually, he gets awfully quiet whenever sheâs around and will bite his nails and fidget with his fingers whenever she gets too close. Billyâs biggest love interest life though, is his fiddle.
Declan Carthy: During chapter 3, Declan and Mary-Beth enter a relationship that doesnât work out, though instead of blaming his own behavior or admitting that the two werenât compatible, Declan blames the appearance of Kieran in the gang. It is unclear if he truly loves Mary-Beth or if their relationship offered opportunities that he couldnât afford to lose, but Declan desperately wants his old love back.
Seamus Donovan: Seamus is one of the highest ranking OâDriscolls and is an âuncle-figureâ to Mary-Beth. He wasnât around when the gang was formed but joined a year later, and in 1899 is directly responsible for the operations from Six Point Cabin. Heâs also considered a less awful OâDriscoll because he actually treats the lower ranks as fellow gang members. Seamus regularly gifts Mary-Beth books and jewelry that he thinks she may like.
Paul Thompson: Paul likes to think of himself as Mary-Bethâs guardian angel. Heâs the gangâs finest sharpshooter and always makes sure to keep an eye on the young woman. Paul is the one that finds out about most of the gangâs score, but is often insistent on Mary-Beth not joining simply because he thinks she might get hurt.
(Fat) Tommy Dawson: Tommy is a particularly violent OâDriscoll that Mary-Beth can never truly read. She refers to him as âUncle Tommyâ but is unsure of if he actually wants to be called that or not. He never hurts her though, because his feelings arenât really his. Tommy feels whatever Colm wants him to feel. Tommy prides himself on being the most loyal OâDriscoll there is, and nothing is going to get rid of his unwavering loyalty.
Colm OâDriscoll: Colm has spent his entire life as a gang leader trying to avoid attachments and a care for others, but it becomes impossible when Mary-Beth is thrown into the mix. Colm taught her how to ride a horse, how to shoot, how to read, how to write and how to rob. Heâll never admit it, but some times when he looks at grown Mary-Beth, the only thing he can see is that little girl he found all those years ago.
Obviously all of this will take one hell of a time to write, but hopefully every chapter will be finished eventually. I am currently working on chapter 2. Chapters will be released one by one as soon as they are done<3 Hope you guys are interested!^^
