From June to November, warm tropical waters fuel storms that trace paths across the Atlantic, through the Caribbean, west, north, south. Belize lies on the western fringe — not always the target, but always in the storm’s architecture.

⚡ Some storms intensify fast, going from Cat 1 to 3+ in a day. 🌊 Our reef and mangroves are more than beauty — they are shields. 📻 And in our homes, radios, stories, and instincts guide us before satellites ever blink on.

For generations, this land carried a colonial name: British Honduras. It tied us to the British Crown, to mahogany camps, to labor and survival.

But in 1973, the name was changed. And in 1981, Belize stepped fully into independence.

A name can hold memory. A name can also hold us back. To say Belize is to reclaim identity, language, and pride.

Maya Sun God

Discovered beneath the Temple of Masonry Altars at Altun Ha in 1968, this 10-lb carving of jadeite is more than an artifact. It is a mirror of time.

It may be the face of Kinich Ahau, the Maya Sun God… or the memory of a ruler who carried the divine.

What I carry is this: the men who uncovered it were not foreign scholars but Belizean hands — Wilhelm “Busta” Leslie and Winston Herbert. Their story deserves to be told too.

Just returned from a peaceful visit to Cabins at Carmelita, a quiet riverside escape nestled high on a natural cliff in Belize’s Cayo District. Waking up to toucans calling, ceiba trees swaying, and horses grazing nearby felt like stepping into a different rhythm — one where nature leads.

Each cabin is named after a bird you might actually spot nearby, and the views? Pure jungle magic. This isn’t a resort — it’s a reflection of real Belizean life, close to the land and full of calm.
