when people die early in a story but their death sets the tone for the whole story and to an extent sets everything in motion even if the story isnโt about their deathโฆ thatโs good shit right there!
the personification of death being portrayed as deeply kind in fiction is something that reduces me to tears every single time

still so obsessed w the empty gaping hole characters that never actually appear in the story leave like god. you can see the shape of them
thinking abt my stinky awful boy dan and the inherent tragedy of his entire storyย like .... hes absolutely a heinous not-human but he was also just an angry teenage kid. he let himself be consumed by his anger and grief and desire to make everyone else hurt because he was so egregiously hurt, and was surrounded by people who encouraged that behavior and used it for their own benefit. he was fed the idea he was nothing but a delinquent, a future inmate, and an idiot without a future until he believed it, lost his safety net, and then, unsurprisingly, immediately integrated into the first social group who made him feel like he belonged (a cult), and itโs honestly just sad.
what is the desolation though if not the loss of a promising life in its prime.

the only problem with scythes as a weapon is that you can't design one without some joyless realist deciding it's their duty to remind you how impractical they would actually be in combat. it's always "but a scythe would be useless in a real battle!!1!" and never How was the scythe the scythe looked fun it was fun.
