YOTTABYTE is a sci-fi/mystery webcomic that follows a PI named Mercer Hart as she investigates the mass murder of the employees of a robotics company, and cultivates a tenuous relationship with its mysterious CEO.

Yahoo!!! No more FANDOM wiki!!! Find the new minecraft wiki at minecraft.wiki!!

I thought it would be good to make a little PSA post with summarised information on why they moved from FANDOM!

Why did they move?

FANDOM is notoriously a bad wiki for both readers and editors alike. This is due to the insane amount of ads, the site layout, the lag, the fact that FANDOM can just take your wiki from you, etc has made the minecraft wiki decide to move

Because of the lack of agency the minecraft wiki has over its own wiki, they had a long discussion and vote with the community on what wiki platform to move towards. You can view both discussions here and here

By moving to a more independent wiki, they can provide a much better and friendlier service.

What's improved with the new wiki?

New site look, lacking the ugly FANDOM yellow sidebar and removing all other unnecessary bloat! This also includes a dark mode option and other custom settings.

Faster load times! I have incredibly good internet, and even I notice the STARK difference between the load times of FANDOM and the official wiki!

Less ads! At the moment they have no ads, but they do intend to have at least one. The placement of which will be discussed with the community to ensure minimal disruption to the user.

Better search functionality! FANDOM's search is notoriously bad at giving you the answers you need. Now they can have a more robust search function that more accurately brings users to what they are looking for.

No age popups- Unlike FANDOM this wiki does not need to know if you're a child or adult.

Anonymous editing has returned! Users can now once again anonymously contribute to the site!

HOWEVER. THE MINECRAFT WIKI NEEDS YOUR HELP!

FANDOM refuses to close old wiki's that have moved away, and so they will continue to show up in search domains. The old domains such as minecraft.gamepedia.com and minecraftwiki.net are also permanently attached to the FANDOM wiki.

In order to help the new wiki be successful, you can help out in the following way:

Spread the word!

Don't interact with FANDOM links. The less people interact with FANDOM, the more google knows that people are looking for the official wiki and not the FANDOM one!

Dont use the old links, again for the same reason as above!

As you can tell from my total lack of karma, I don't really use Reddit (wrong generation). But I thought I'd pop by, because this might be of interest to some of you.

My name is Julian Gough; I mostly write novels and children's books. Back in 2011, though, I wrote the End Poem, just before the official launch of the game. For complicated reasons, I never signed the contract with Mojang, and for even more complicated reasons, I again refused to sign it in 2014, when Microsoft bought Mojang. So I own the End Poem.

It's been kind of tricky to know what to do about that, and over the years I mostly just parked the problem. Most of the problems that led to me not signing the contract were to do with friendship, not money, so I was very reluctant to send in the lawyers, because suing would have made it all about money, and it wasn't about money. Plus, suing is bad karma! And I liked everyone involved; we had just communicated badly. And I love Minecraft, and love the fact that so many people get to see the End Poem. I mean, that's why wrote it.

Although, it's an oversimplification to say "I wrote the End Poem" particularly in the second half, the universe wrote the End Poem through me. I had no idea what words would come out of my pen next; even though I was writing them down, I read them with fascination as they appeared.

So, anyway, last year, I did some (nice, legal, safe) psilocybin mushrooms in a very special place in the Netherlands, and rather to my surprise, got some advice from the universe about Microsoft and Minecraft... and you.

And so I have finally freed the End Poem. More specifically, I have made it available under a Creative Commons license. This one: CCO 1.0 Universal (CCO 1.0) Public Domain Dedication

It's a nice elegant solution to the problem, where nobody gets hurt. By bringing the End Poem into the public domain, everyone is free to use it, including Microsoft. So I give them the gift of the End Poem, and they give me the gift of continuing to distribute it around the world. Nothing in the game needs to change. But outside the game, you are all now free to play with the End Poem; put it on posters, or t-shirts, or barn doors, set it to music, make it into an art film, whatever.

Whew. It's such a relief to have finally liberated the End Poem, and myself, from this bizarre situation.

minecraft 1.12: more color than ever is brought to minecraft! parrots can be found in the jungle now!

minecraft 1.13: life has returned to the ocean! dolphins and fish and corals and sea pickles and vibrance!

minecraft 1.14: the villagers are remembering their culture and their craft! they’re more advanced than ever!

minecraft 1.15: bee :)

minecraft 1.16: there’s even life in the nether now! a somewhat-thriving society of piglins is there, there’s animals like striders and hoglins, and even forests of fungi!

minecraft 1.17: life is even occurring deep underground! axolotls are swimming around in the caves, new plantlife can be found stored away, and beautiful geodes adorn the underground!

this is the Warden! it kills you in one hit and has more health than the ender dragon :) it’s entirely blind so if you hold sneak it will never hurt you because it can’t hear you. it lives at the very bottom of the world (world depth has increased and now the world goes down to -64) where there are a lot more diamonds but also a lot more dangers.

it will come for you if you place blocks, break blocks, walk, eat, and pretty much anything else. wool, however, is very quiet, so you can place it and break it all you want, and it even blocks soundwaves from reaching the warden :)

it’s debated as to whether or not those things in its chest cavity are souls or hearts. when asked about it, the dev who made the warden said “they certainly do look like souls, and they certainly do beat like hearts”
