“I’m sure you’ll forgive me for being a bit cautious, Uncle Peter. It’s been years but I still remember that help from you comes with strings attached.”

She isn’t sure exactly what to say. She had heard all the stories, none of them were pleasant. But as she stood, eyes locked with his back, she couldn’t yell or curse at his deeds. For better or worse, she was a part of this man, he gave her life, brought her into this world. Even if it were true that he didn’t remember her.

It hadn’t escaped her notice that he couldn’t even look at her. But she understood that, while she had heard stories, obviously he would have too. Would know the story about the crash and how her eyes turned blue. She wasn’t the daughter anyone would dream of nor want.

“I get it.”

That was all she said, not sure how else to explain it. The stories she’d heard of him, while gruesome, his actions made sense to her - something she hadn’t told her friends. Everything he’d done was to survive, as someone in touch with her wild side, in tune with her coyote. She understood the need to survive at all costs.

“Everything they say you done was your wolf trying to survive. I get it. I also get no one in their right mind would want me as a daughter.”

“ The fire was a very traumatic experience, no doubt much like the car crash was for you. My wolf and I were thrown very out of sync during the time that followed and I suppose you could say I became rabid. When I could rationalize the world around me, I thought that if I could kill the people responsible for the slaughter of my family, then it would stop hurting. A word to the wise, it doesn’t work. ”

          “Oh don’t but so bitter all the time.” Says probably the most bitter one standing in the room with brows half furrowed. The worst part is that Peter raises too many good points and the human knows it. Just like last time and still Stiles continues to follow the friend that keeps looking past his suffering to pay more attention to his girlfriend or some greater good bullshit. Not everything is as black and white as Scott likes to believe and Stiles gets that now. After enough time of living in the mess of gray and thinned lines.

He does seem to huff lowly before rolling his shoulders, moving to pace. Stiles is still most days. Rigged and unlike himself almost entirely – but one this is for sure, he will always pace when overly anxious. “So my life choices are shit. Like most of yours are any better.”

“ Don’t project your own problems. Obviously I’m trying to make better decisions, but somehow the extra baggage I keep unloading keeps inviting itself back where it isn’t wanted. ”  Stiles has got so many tells. Even if Peter wasn’t a wolf it wouldn’t be hard to see that Stiles is struggling with the rut he’s put himself in.

For most people he’s got a slew of unkind words and unnecessary sass, but when he looks at her he becomes disarmed by her. His instincts tell her that this is someone who he should be caring for, and something inside him aches, but his mind reminds him of why things aren’t the way they should be. TALIA. Still ruining his life from beyond the grave.

Peter has to avert his eyes to even utter a single word. He can’t gaze upon the things he’s lost. It’s not a matter of choosing not to, it’s whatever route ends in less pain for him.

“ I’m thinking we should start talking things out. I know we’re both not very good at it. ” 

“ No, Stiles. Just stop. What we aren’t going to do is go around in a circle and play the same games as before. If you want to follow blindly and wait for something that’s never going to happen, be my guest. You aren’t dragging me down with you. I gave you a choice, and now you’ve got to live with your decision, albeit a poor decision. ”
