reblog if racists have no place in the beatles fandom
Agreed, and I’m going to add more to this. It’s not just people who are openly racist. Just because of the way society is, we all have stereotypes and racist ideas ingrained in our heads. All of us. But that doesn’t make us racist people. The important thing is to acknowledge our biases and to actively challenge these prejudiced ways of thinking that society has taught us. God knows I’ve made mistakes, but that doesn’t mean that I’m beyond redemption. I’m still learning ways that I’ve been ignorant, and I’m working on trying to change that. I invite all of you to do the same.
Racism isn’t going to go away if we stay passive. Take action, in whatever ways you can. Sign petitions. Speak up when you witness microaggressions. Listen to and believe people who speak about the racism they face. And please, think about your own behavior. Admitting that you’ve done something wrong doesn’t make you racist. It’s a step toward becoming more anti-racist.
Here’s a link to something I reblogged earlier with some good information on microaggressions. They’re not very long articles (and one is a video), but they’re very informative. Even if you’re short on time, pick one to read through. I promise you, it’s worth the time.
the racism of this fandom disgusts me. as a person of colour, the prejudiced language here shocks me right to my core. this is all supposed to be about love and yet this fandom continues to push blame and get defensive for their prejudice and language.
please. educate yourselves. admit your mistakes. DON’T SEND OR SPREAD ANY MORE HATE. the one thing i hate is that horrible things had to happen and are still happening. i don’t know how much i can do by just reblogging this, but at least i am not choosing to be passive any longer. and i, too, invite you all to join in.
